The smartphone market is no longer just a playground for giants like Apple and Samsung, but Chinese phone brands are also thriving in this race. Evidence of this is seen with names like Xiaomi, OPPO, consistently topping market share and achieving significant sales figures. However, many people are still hesitant when it comes to buying phones made in China. So in 2022, should you buy a Chinese smartphone?
1. What are Chinese phones?

Simply put, Chinese smartphones are devices originating from China, manufactured by brands from this populous country. Nowadays, Chinese smartphones are prevalent in the Vietnamese market, such as Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO, and more.
Perhaps when mentioning these brands, you'd agree that smartphones from these companies are highly favored by Vietnamese users, right? According to many users, Chinese smartphones not only boast good performance but also come at very affordable prices, fitting the pockets of Vietnamese people.

This has proven that Chinese products are no longer inferior in quality as commonly perceived. Let me present some impressive figures to demonstrate how Chinese phones are winning the hearts of Vietnamese users!
At The Gioi Di Dong, records show that there were over 4,000 pre-orders for OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro in less than 3 days after their launch. Reno5 even surpassed this, becoming the best-selling smartphone in Q1/2021 in Vietnam. This attests to the appeal of OPPO in particular and Chinese phone brands in general, which remains significant.

Furthermore, Chinese phones have several advantages, offering users a wide range of choices at different price points, spanning from budget-friendly to high-end devices.
It's evident, especially when using the price filter on The Gioi Di Dong, that in the sub-5-million VND segment, Chinese phones dominate the market more than phones from other countries. This demonstrates that Chinese phones offer more variety in design within this segment and are much more affordable.
2. Should you buy a Chinese phone? Are Chinese phones any good?

As mentioned earlier, the quality of Chinese smartphones has greatly improved, offering outstanding performance at a very affordable price. Therefore, choosing to buy genuine Chinese smartphones is entirely reasonable.
With their affordable price tags, Chinese smartphones are the perfect choice for students, young professionals, or anyone with limited financial resources who either need a budget-friendly phone or want an inexpensive secondary device.

Mid-range devices from China are currently making waves in the smartphone market. A prime example is the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which has become a household name as the 'sales king' in the mid-range segment.
Most recently, the Vivo V23e from Vivo has been consistently topping the charts as one of the best-selling smartphones shortly after its release.

In terms of performance, Chinese smartphones predominantly utilize processors from Qualcomm or chips from MediaTek, ensuring reliable performance. These are two leading chip manufacturers in the current market. Not only Chinese smartphones but even Samsung phones are also using chips from these companies.

While fast charging technology used to be exclusive to expensive flagship phones, it's now widely available in affordable Chinese smartphones. Moreover, you can easily find Chinese phones with robust batteries ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 mAh.
Authentic Chinese smartphones also come with excellent warranty policies, comparable to any other brand in the world. When purchasing phones from major retailers or authorized dealers like The Gioi Di Dong, you'll enjoy quality after-sales service and reliable warranties.

A profound yet beneficial reason for Vietnamese users is the proximity of China to our country. This means you won't have to worry about shortages of repair components, spare parts, etc., and you won't have to wait too long if your device needs to be sent back to the manufacturer for warranty claims.
A difficult question often asked is, 'which Chinese phone brand is the best?' In my opinion, each brand has its own strengths and benefits tailored to their customers.

For example, OPPO features super-fast VOOC charging technology alongside a top-notch camera system, Xiaomi offers users a powerhouse configuration, Vivo is renowned for its sleek design and leading-edge cameras... So the answer entirely depends on your usage needs.
3. Why do users still not fully trust Chinese smartphones?

The first reason is undoubtedly the psychological barrier of users. We Vietnamese have long held biases against all Chinese products, not just phones.
This is the biggest obstacle that makes it difficult for Chinese phones to gain absolute trust from users in Vietnam. However, based on our analysis above, users will gradually develop affinity and gradually overcome prejudices against Chinese phones.

We may still remember the allegations of unauthorized data collection by numerous Chinese phone manufacturers. This scandal has further tarnished the reputation of Chinese smartphones in the eyes of users.
However, high-level executives of these companies have officially spoken out, and the issue has somewhat subsided. Data collection has always been a hot topic for tech giants worldwide, not just for phone brands from China.

Even Western tech giants like Facebook have faced numerous allegations of user data collection, so personally, I don't think this issue is exclusive to Chinese phones.
4. Why are Chinese smartphones so cheap, is there any issue?

China is renowned as the world's largest electronics manufacturing and assembly hub, thanks to its extremely low labor costs.
Chinese phone brands have a significant advantage over Apple and Samsung in that they are manufactured right at home. Consequently, they enjoy certain privileges and better policies from the government, significantly reducing production costs.

Chinese smartphone brands can save a lot of money by employing online sales strategies, particularly on e-commerce platforms.
They won't focus too much on retail stores or flagship stores like Apple and Samsung, thus saving a considerable amount of money on rent and employee salaries at these stores.

In 2022, buying a Chinese smartphone will still be a wise choice

Chinese smartphones are increasingly becoming more refined with designs getting more beautiful, stable performance, and prices extremely suitable for the Vietnamese market. Additionally, warranty and repair policies are also very good. Therefore, you can now use Chinese brand smartphones with more peace of mind.
While Chinese phones used to be labeled as 'copycats' of iPhones or Samsungs, each brand now has its own unique highlights that reflect their brand identity.

With the same amount of money, you can own a smartphone with better performance and newer technology, which I think is definitely worth considering. As long as you buy phones from reputable, authorized stores with clear origins and comprehensive warranty policies, there's nothing to worry about.
That's my personal opinion. What about you? How do you evaluate Chinese smartphones? Do you trust using Chinese phones? Leave your comments below!
