Choosing the appropriate temperature setting for each fabric not only reduces the time it takes to iron your clothes but also protects the fabric fibers from damage, ensuring a longer lifespan for your iron. So, do you know how to iron clothes properly according to the suitable temperature?
Each fabric requires a different ironing temperature
Typically, every ironing device comes with a dial located in the middle of the product body, divided into 3 main temperature levels suitable for different types of fabrics:
Level 1: with a temperature range from 0 to 135 degrees Celsius, suitable for ironing clothes made of shiny fabric, synthetic fibers, and silk fibers.
Level 2: with a temperature range from 135 to 148 degrees Celsius, suitable for ironing clothes made of wool, and silk fibers.
Level 3: with a temperature above 148 degrees Celsius (max), suitable for ironing clothes made of cotton, and cotton fibers.

An ironing board typically has three main temperature levels.
Proper Guide to Ironing Clothes
Dress Shirt:
The best time to iron a dress shirt is when it's been washed clean but not completely dry. In case you take the shirt out of the closet after it's been dry for a long time, you can spray a layer of moist water before ironing. Then, adjust the ironing board to the appropriate temperature depending on the fabric composition of your shirt. Beforehand, you should remove all the buttons. First, the collar and shoulders of the shirt are the two areas you should iron first because they are the most difficult areas to iron, then move on to the two sides of the shirttails and finally the shirt hem.

The best time to iron is when the dress shirt is not completely dry.
Moreover, if the ironing board you're using is not a steam iron, it's advisable to have a water spray bottle nearby to mist on difficult-to-iron surfaces. This will make ironing a dress shirt much easier.
Dress Pants:
The pleats are the most challenging area when ironing dress pants. If not done carefully and correctly, these pleats can crease into two or three folds, leaving the pants looking wrinkled. To avoid this issue, before ironing dress pants, you should use clips to secure the two pant legs together, then iron along the crease. Your dress pants will have only a single crisp crease.

Using clips to secure both pant legs makes ironing dress pants much easier.
Silk Clothing:
Silk fabric gives clothing a luxurious, shiny appearance. However, silk garments are often difficult to iron flat after washing, requiring precise temperature control. To overcome this, place them in a cotton pillowcase, tie it tightly, put it in the freezer for a while, then remove and iron as usual for a smooth finish.
Mastering the proper use of an iron at the right temperature not only saves you household chores time but also earns you extra points in the eyes of family members. Quickly ironing a mountain of clothes in no time not only gives you more free time but also protects your clothes from heat damage caused by the iron's temperature. Isn't this the best solution, right?
