Sample essay portraying oneself as Son Deity (or Water Deity) and retelling the legend of Son Deity, Water Deity
Essay
I remember, those days are long gone, from the time of the eighteenth Hung King. At that time, though only twenty years old, I was the ruler of the forests of the Tan Vien mountain range. The name Son Deity has been bestowed upon me by the people ever since.
In that year, King Hung held a bridegroom selection ceremony. You see, King Hung had a daughter named My Nuong. She was famous throughout the capital and was as beautiful and gentle as a flower. Upon hearing the proclamation, I traveled from the Tan Vien mountains to Phong Chau to attend the auspicious event.
The bridegroom selection ceremony that day was bustling, but what stood out the most in terms of talent were myself and another person named Water Deity, rumored to come from the deep waters. I stepped forward to bow to King Hung and performed my magic. I waved my hand to the east, and islands emerged; I waved my hand to the west, and mountains and hills rose. The court officials seemed very pleased, nodding in approval. Yet Water Deity was not to be outdone; he called the wind, the wind came, he called the rain, and the rain came. Both of us were equally matched, leaving King Hung in a dilemma. After deliberation with the court officials, the king made his decision:
The next morning, I arrived early to deliver the tribute. After paying respects to the king, I immediately requested to take My Nuong back to the mountains.
Thuy Tinh arrived later and upon learning that I had already taken My Nuong, became furious and unleashed a massive flood in pursuit. The entire Phong Chau region was submerged, and the people suffered greatly. Seeing this, I rallied my troops to engage Thuy Tinh in battle. The conflict lasted for months. No matter how the water rose and churned, I used mountains to fill the gaps. With steadfast resolve, I waited until the day Thuy Tinh weakened and retreated.
Although I liberated the entire Phong Chau region, the enmity between me and the water deity grew deeper. Every year, Thuy Tinh stirred up storms and floods in an attempt to reclaim My Nuong, but I defeated him every time. Over time, my people constructed large dams to block distant water battles. Despite weariness, fueled by deep-seated grudge, whenever an opportunity arose, the water deity unleashed fierce waves against our vulnerable dikes.
