So what gives this lotus species its remarkable ability to bear such weight? It's because the lotus stem can grow to sizes almost equivalent to an adult human's wrist. Mature lotus leaves can reach diameters of up to 3 meters. The edges of the leaves, standing 2-5cm above the water surface, resemble the traditional conical hats from the northern regions, adding an intriguing and delightful touch.

The upper surface of the leaf is smooth and glossy, predominantly in a captivating light green hue. Meanwhile, the underside of the lotus leaf features prominent veins and spikes, segmented into small squares with a light red shade when young, gradually darkening with age. Particularly during the flood season, the gigantic lotus leaves at Phuoc Kien Temple can reach widths of up to 2.5 meters, effortlessly supporting individuals weighing up to 140 kilograms without sinking.
