Attempting to overclock the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX CPU beyond 5GHz and the result

TSAIK recently set a world record on Cinebench R23 by overclocking the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX CPU to 5.15 GHz on liquid nitrogen, achieving an impressive score of 116,142 points, which is 10% higher than the previous record.

This demonstrates AMD's IPC improvements on the Zen 3 architecture, including unified L3 cache per CCD and core-level enhancements, resulting in a 19% IPC improvement over Zen 2, the architecture used by the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X and the previous record holder.

The Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000 WX-series is AMD's new generation of workstation processors. These chips have a similar core configuration to their predecessors but feature AMD's newer Zen 3 architecture and slightly higher clock speeds. According to preliminary tests, these chips can be up to 20% faster than the Threadripper 3000 chips depending on the application.

Most importantly, AMD has allowed overclocking of the Ryzen Threadripper workstation processors. This is a rare move in the industry. Thanks to this decision, TSAIK was able to break the Cinebench R23 record.

To achieve this world record score, TSAIK used the MSI WS WRX80 motherboard with all eight DIMM slots filled with Corsair Vengeance DDR4 128 GB RAM. This memory was configured to CL14-14-14-32 timings and operated at 3200 MT/s.

The future looks bright for the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX. There is plenty of room for others to overclock and break this record.
