The Audi Activesphere Concept embodies Audi's vision of a hybrid SUV Coupe with a pickup truck. It boasts a unique design, electric propulsion, and a host of features deemed essential for a future mode of transportation. With Activesphere, we can see traces of the Grandsphere concept and the Urbansphere minivan, the conceptual vehicles previously introduced by the German brand.Overall, the Audi Activesphere Concept resembles a lifted A5 Sportback, with 22-inch wheels to create a commanding stance, the body gently curved along with sturdy protective panels for a muscular feel. Glass is the predominant material used throughout the car's roof, providing a sense of openness for occupants and a modern aesthetic for the vehicle.
Additionally, Activesphere garners attention with advanced technology features such as captivating LED headlights at both the front and rear of the car, a camera system replacing side mirrors, and the alloy wheels with adjustable 'breathing holes' that can open or close depending on operating conditions.
Thanks to its adaptive air suspension system, Activesphere's ground clearance can vary. The standard ground clearance of the car will be 208 mm, similar to that of the Q5, but it can increase to 248 mm in off-road mode or decrease to 168 mm when driving on smooth roads, thereby improving driving sensation and optimizing aerodynamics.
In self-driving mode, all traditional control tools such as the steering wheel or pedals will retract inside, expanding space for both front and rear passengers, while increasing visibility for those sitting inside thanks to the transparent grille. Driving along the cockpit is like a 'tunnel' with a transparent cover, where drinks can be cooled or food can be heated when needed.
Inside the vehicle, Audi equips 4 glasses for passengers to immerse themselves in the virtual world, where they can interact with the car or fulfill entertainment needs without any physical screens or buttons. With this tool, adjusting the air conditioning, sound system in the car can be done through touch gestures or eye movements in the virtual space.
Like other conceptual models, Activesphere is also developed based on the brand's future electric vehicle platform called Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The car is equipped with 2 electric motors, with a total output of 436 horsepower, torque of 750 Nm, driving all four wheels. The 100 kWh battery pack allows the car to run 600 km per charge, supporting 270 kW charging which charges from 5-80% in less than 24 minutes at super-fast charging stations.
Activesphere may not be commercialized, but some features of the car may be applied to an Audi electric model in the future. The first cars using the PPE structure will be introduced later this year with improved operational capabilities. Audi aims to become a brand exclusively producing electric vehicles by 2033.
