Anticipating another record by Tom Cruise to be surpassed by Avatar: The Way of Water.
The comeback of the Avatar franchise after 13 years of absence has ignited the global cinema scene at the end of 2022. James Cameron's visually mesmerizing world-building has left viewers in awe. As a result, the film has garnered numerous outstanding and intriguing achievements that both audiences and the crew are sure to remember.

Since its global premiere, Avatar: The Way of Water has achieved remarkable success, surpassing contemporaneous projects. Within just 3 days of release, the film grossed over $434 million (nearly 10.3 trillion Vietnamese dong), including $134 million (over 3.1 trillion Vietnamese dong) from the North American domestic market. However, this result only ranks second in 2022 as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continues to dominate the opening weekend box office.
However, the possibility of Avatar 2 reaching the $1 billion mark is entirely feasible, even predicted to overthrow this year's box office champion, Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise.
In Vietnam, the sequel to Avatar debuted impressively with a revenue of 70 billion VND, propelling James Cameron's blockbuster onto the list of the top 3 highest first-week grossing films of all time in Vietnam, trailing only behind Avengers: Endgame. After nearly 6 days of screening, the film officially grossed 100 billion VND in Vietnam on December 21 at noon. However, this achievement still falls behind Doctor Strange 2 this year, which took 5 days to break the milestone.

On another note, the filming process of Avatar 2 has also led to numerous remarkable achievements for the cast. For Kate Winslet, she unexpectedly shattered Tom Cruise's previous record for the longest underwater breath-holding. While Cruise held the record with 6 minutes underwater for Mission Impossible 5 in 2015, Winslet now surpasses this with an impressive 7 minutes and 14 seconds.

In a conversation with USA Today, Kate Winslet jokingly remarked that Tom Cruise might be feeling quite disheartened upon hearing that his record has been broken by 'Rose'. 'Feel sorry for Tom. I don't know him, never met him, but I'm sure he's feeling pretty down to hear that I've broken his record. However, I'm very happy, surprised at my own ability, and continue to progress'.

In fact, aside from Kate Winslet, the Avatar 2 family also includes Sigourney Weaver who managed to hold her breath for 6 minutes and 30 seconds, thereby also surpassing Tom Cruise's record. Sharing the secret on Jimmy Fallon's show, Weaver revealed that she received training from the talented diving expert Kirk Krack, who advised the actors that when feeling breathless, they should divert their thoughts elsewhere.
