RecImg Manager is an application used to back up the entire Windows 8 system along with pre-installed applications based on a snapshot mechanism of the entire system settings, all installed software, etc. Therefore, when there is an error on Windows 8, we only need to select the most complete snapshot for restoration.
Guide on How to Back Up Data in Windows 8
Step 1: Download and install RecImg Manager on your computer. You can get the latest version of RecImg Manager
Step 2: The main interface of the program is directly inspired by Windows 8, with a user-friendly metro interface, organized into two main functions: backup and restore presented in neat square blocks. Looking at the RecImg Manager interface, it's relatively simple, and almost anyone can imagine how to use the software.
- Backup: Used to capture the system image.
(1)Select Destination Drive: Choose the drive to save the operating system's image. The program will check that the data to be backed up is 10.8GB (in this case, the subsequent backup will require more storage space).
(2)Snapshot Details: Enter the name of the backup (default is saved with date and time of backup), input a descriptive name for the backup (for example, a backup that includes office, autocad, etc.)
(3)Start Backup: Initiate the Backup process.
+ Choose an Image to Restore: Includes previously backed-up images, including a default program backup named System Reset (used to restore to the point of just installing Windows without applications).
+ Edit: Modify information such as backup name and description.
+ Delete: Remove a backup.
+ Browse: Explore and select a snapshot on the hard drive for restoration, in case RecImg Manager doesn't list the backups on the Restore interface.
+ Restore: Begin the restoration process.
- Options: Includes basic settings for the software:
+ Automatically Capture New Snapshots: Automatically back up the system on a schedule.
+ Run Scheduled Backups on Battery Power: Automatically back up the system on a schedule when the computer is running on battery.
+ Automatically Delete Old Snapshots: Automatically delete old backups, set how many backups to keep in the Number of Recent Snapshots to Keep section.
+ Show Log Files: Review program log files at the path C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\SlimWare Utilities, Inc\RecImg Manager\Logs.
+ Default: Revert to the original settings.
+ Save: Save the settings information.
+ Cancel: Cancel the settings.
Step 3: An Example of Backup for Windows
Open the RecImg Manager program. Choose the drive to save the Windows backup, in this case, Drive D (1). For the default name of the backup, enter the descriptive name including: Office, Mtd2002, FastStone Capture, Active presenter in area (2), then select Backup Now (3).
After receiving the completion notification for the backup, select Yes to close the program.
We can check information and the size of the backup at drive D:\RecImg Snapshots.
Tips: You can back up data in Win 8 by creating a Restore Point on Windows 8. Additionally, if you are using Windows 8.1, you can check how to create a Restore Point in Windows 8.1.
Right-click on This PC, select Properties.
In this step, choose Advanced System Settings.
In this step, select the System Protection Tab (1), then choose Create (2).
In this step, enter a name for the Restore Point, such as Restore_Point_30052014 (1), then select Create (2) to create a restore point for Windows 8.
After the system completes creating the restore point for Windows 8, select Close to finish the restore point creation process.
