Game's NFT Integration Plan Abandoned Just a Day After Announcement
In recent times, the NFT wave has been sweeping through even traditional video games. While NFTs offer positive signals like exclusive items and reduced hacking issues, not all gamers welcome the trend. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, an eagerly awaited game, stirred controversy as its developer, GSC Game World, revealed plans to integrate NFTs.
Specifically, not long ago, the developer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, GSC Game World, unveiled a project integrating NFT elements into its upcoming flagship. Through collaboration, GSC aimed to turn NFT owners into 'metahumans' - NPCs in the game resembling the owners. Despite assurances that these NPCs would not affect the storyline or gameplay, gamers expressed strong opposition from the project's outset.
However, right from the project's announcement, GSC's plan faced immediate and vigorous opposition from numerous gamers. Many argued that S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 didn't need and had excessive demand for integrating NFTs into the game, considering it a mere strategy to boost views and profit for the developer. Additionally, others vehemently opposed the NFT trend, viewing it as a part contributing to the environmental degradation of the world. Despite the reasons, protests, opposition, and even strong criticism forced GSC to change its stance.
Just one day after announcing the NFT integration project, GSC swiftly reversed course. Stating a deep concern for user opinions, the game developer promptly scrapped the entire NFT project, disregarding the fact that over 100,000 players had previously linked to the website to purchase S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2's NFT products.
