Don't allow Thailand's beauty to become mundane in your eyes as this country offers countless intriguing travel destinations for you to discover. Ban Bo Luang, a charming village amidst national gardens bordering Laos, is a place like no other.
Situated approximately 100km from the center of Nan province (northern Thailand), Ban Bo Luang is a convenient starting point for travelers exploring Doi Phu Kha National Park and Khun Nan National Park.
In this village, over 20 households still practice the age-old tradition of salt-making from local salt wells that have existed for hundreds of years. They pump water from these saline wells into large clay pots inside temporary huts. After boiling the water for about 3 hours, as most of it evaporates, they use bamboo sieves to collect salt crystals precipitated below.
A salt worker here lives in a small, smoky tent while the salt is heated on a stove to keep the flames burning evenly, and retrieves the salt when the water is sufficiently depleted. The salt is then packaged and sold around the Nan province area, even hospitals use this salt, sterilizing it for treating various skin conditions.
Experience the mountainous lifestyle of the locals, where travelers can both relax comfortably and admire the beautiful northern Thai mountain scenery. Boklua View is perhaps the ideal resort for your journey, with 11 bungalows embraced by the pristine nature at the foot of Doi Phu Kha hill. Not only surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, but the resort also grows its own vegetables to serve its guests.
From here, you can also explore the fascinating nature in the surrounding National Parks. Doi Phu Kha National Park is renowned for the highest mountain peak in Nan province and the ethnic minority villages like Mien and H'Mong living on the mountains, along with waterfalls, caves, and forests for you to explore. As for Khun Nan, it offers stunning tourist routes for you to marvel at the beautiful landscapes of Laos.
For dining, you can either book directly at the accommodation or visit Hua Saphan restaurant, offering local dishes at affordable prices.
Foreign visitors should bring cash as the only ATM in this area accepts domestic cards only.
