The renowned American newspaper CNN has compiled a list of the 30 most delicious fried foods in the world, which includes Vietnamese banh ran, also known as banh cam.

Although named banh cam, there's not a hint of orange flavor in this pastry. Banh cam, known in Southern Vietnam, resembles an orange due to its shape and color. It's made from glutinous rice flour with green bean paste filling, coated with white sesame seeds, and deep-fried to perfection. In Northern Vietnam, it's called banh ran, and after frying to a crisp, it's coated with a layer of honey or sugar on the outside.
Banh cam is sold as a popular snack in Hanoi, long favored by both tourists and locals alike. Banh ran is typically sold street-side, kept in baskets that vendors carry as they wander through the streets. There are various versions of banh ran, including flat ones, round ones, crescent-shaped ones, banh cam with sesame seed coating, sugar coating, or honey coating...
CNN's list also features Japanese tempura, with tempura vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin, as well as shrimp and mushrooms. Tempura is a well-known dish in Japanese cuisine, on par with sushi or sashimi, originating in the 16th century as a vegetarian alternative to meat during fasting days.
