For nearly a decade, Anh Minh Duc has been bringing the flavors of his mother and grandmother's noodle soup from Bao Loc to Saigon.
Bao Loc's traditional shrimp and crab noodle soup spot in Saigon
Located on Vo Van Kiet Street in District 1, the noodle soup spot is owned by Le Minh Duc. Being from Bao Loc, Duc wants to continue the family tradition as his mother has been running a noodle soup spot for over 40 years.
Currently managed by Duc's sister, Huynh Thi Thanh My, she ensures that the dish stays true to the original recipe from Bao Loc.

The shop opens at 6:30 AM. What sets the dish apart here is the crab cake. While most places in Saigon use crab, My uses shrimp instead. This unique flavor has kept customers coming back for many years.
The broth is crafted from marrow bones, devoid of the commonly seen red hue but possessing a clear, naturally sweet taste. The dish, when served, is visually appealing with a layer of accompaniments on top, alongside a plate of finely chopped, fresh vegetables. Diners can add additional herbs according to their preferences. It's worth noting that many find the dish delicious even without the need for additional lime or fish sauce. However, for an enhanced flavor, a touch of shrimp paste or minced chili is recommended.

Upon arriving at the eatery, patrons can choose from noodle soup with crab, rib, or pork hock, priced at 45,000 VND per bowl. First-time visitors have the option to indulge in a special bowl for 55,000 VND, allowing them to fully savor the distinct taste of the dish.
Mr. Tran Quan, residing in District 8, admitted to being captivated after his first visit to the establishment with colleagues. 'The broth here is skillfully crafted, fragrant and sweet without an excess of artificial flavorings. The special bowl is particularly hearty, and the accompanying vegetables are fresh,' remarked Mr. Quan.
On the other hand, Ms. Kieu Nhi, hailing from District 10, noted that the dish's flavor here is slightly sweeter than her usual palate. 'Being from the Central region, I often find dishes in Saigon to be sweeter than my accustomed taste. Nevertheless, I still appreciate this place for its delicious crab cake,' she commented.

While the venue may not boast grandeur, its ambiance is airy and clean. Tables and chairs for diners are neatly arranged, with the kitchen situated right at the entrance. Those arriving by vehicle can conveniently park in the front. The establishment remains open until 9 pm, though as mentioned by Ms. My, 'if we sell out early on any day, we close early. There are days when we close at 8 pm.
