This summer, experiencing the vast sea atmosphere on Ly Son is truly extraordinary. Check out this charming review of the beautiful 4D3N journey to Ly Son island.
Enjoy the sunny Ly Son island with its blue sea and golden rays
TRANSPORTATION
– From Chu Lai Airport to Sa Ky port: Travel time is 40 minutes by taxi. Consider contacting a shared taxi service to save costs and convenience.
– From Sa Ky port to Ly Son island: The island is only a 35-minute boat ride from the mainland, quite close. The air-conditioned boat provides a comfortable journey.
WHERE TO STAY?
In my experience, it's advisable to find a hotel/guesthouse near the port as it's the central area. This saves both time and transportation costs.
Most hotels and homestays on the island are budget-friendly, ranging from 200k -> 1m VND/night.
– Big Island: I stayed at Tien Tri Guesthouse. The rooms were okay, not perfect, but the location near the port and the enthusiastic host made it worthwhile. She handled all my ferry and canoe tickets. Highly recommend staying here.
– Small Island: Bé Ecolodge homestay. 650k/night, including breakfast.
WHAT TO EAT?
Of course, in Ly Son, it's all about seafood, with rice being the staple. Meat is not as abundant due to the island setting.
– Rice: One popular rice eatery is Dai Hang, almost everyone visiting Ly Son stops by, but I prefer Ut Ngoc. It's cleaner and cooler. Especially, if you eat there a second time, the owner offers a discount. Give it a try!
– Huynh De Crab: This is the local specialty. After some research, I found out that only Ly Son island and Phu Quy island have this type of crab. So, don't miss out on this dish; the crab meat is firm and chewy. I ate one, and I was completely satisfied.
WHERE TO EXPLORE?
– Small Island: Besides the main island, Ly Son also has a relatively small one called the Small Island. It takes about 3 hours to explore the entire island. The distinctive feature here is the crystal-clear water; it almost feels like Maldives. Despite its size, consider staying overnight for a fascinating experience. Each person gets a limited amount of freshwater for bathing because they have to transport it from the main island, which is quite a task.
Note: Make sure to prepare a fully charged camera/phone; Small Island is incredibly beautiful. Every corner is a perfect photo opportunity.
– Big Island: On the big island, there are numerous places to check-in. The locations are not far apart, making transportation very convenient.
– Cau Cave: bears a striking resemblance to places abroad.
– Thoi Loi Mountain Peak: offers plenty of picturesque corners for photo enthusiasts.
– Mu Cu Islet: exceptionally beautiful; an evening stroll along the beach here is incomparable.
– Hang Pagoda: a unique pagoda nestled within a cave; my first time seeing a pagoda inside a cave.
– To Vo Gate: this can be considered a distinctive landmark in Ly Son. A little tip for photo shoots at the gate, have only a few people at a time. I've seen many people trying to bend the gate by having too many individuals on it. Traveling with consciousness and cultural awareness is wonderful, isn't it?
– Paper Flower Tree: over 50 years old.
That sums up all my experiences. The cost is around 5 million VND for 4 days of indulgence on the island. In general, Ly Son is incredibly beautiful, folks. So why hesitate? Treat yourself to a trip to Ly Son island now.
