The initial gameplay might seem a bit complex for some, but there are some tips and tricks to know when starting out. Here are some pieces of advice, hopefully helping you understand how to play Dota Underlords.
Strategies for Newcomers in Dota Underlords
Pro Tips for Dota Underlords Beginners
1. Harnessing the Power of Synergies
Synergy power is a decisive factor in the game. Make sure you're combining units of the same race and class to create synergy power to achieve desired buffs. Each race requires a certain number of Heroes on the board to provide you with a buff.
As shown in the image above, the first buff requires you to have 2 Heroes to get one buff, race 2 also requires 2, but by the time you get to race 3, it requires 3, and so on, also there is a total number of buffs for your army. Trying different strategies and buying Heroes will help you get more supportive buffs. Only different Units can support and increase the number of buffs, similar ones do not count.
2. Upgrading Heroes/Champions/Units
Upgrading your Units is a crucial step to gain more damage and survivability. To upgrade a Unit, you'll need to combine three Units of the same level. Champions start at 1-star, can be upgraded to 2 and 3 stars. Upgraded Champions gain more health, mana, damage, and all other stats. Their special abilities also get upgraded as you level them up.
This is truly meaningful when you aim for victory in the game of wits. Keeping a 1-star Champion on the board and on your bench, waiting for an opportunity to upgrade, can be beneficial. These updates are quite important, especially early in the game. If you can get some 2-star Champions on the board, your chances of winning in the early rounds are very high.
3. Earning Interest from Money
This is quite an interesting mechanism in Auto Chess and now in Dota Underlords. If you have more than 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50+ gold, you'll receive a 10% interest when starting a new round of combat. This is quite important as earning extra gold can give you a long-term advantage as you progress into deeper rounds of combat.
4. Winning Streaks and Losing Streaks
If you can win consecutive rounds, you'll receive a winning streak bonus. One gold after three rounds, two gold after five rounds. Nine rounds or more will reward you with three gold per round. Conversely, for losing streaks, if you lose every round, you'll also receive gold corresponding to the winning streak. Sometimes, losing consecutively can be a strategic move to accumulate gold while waiting for an opportunity to turn the tables.
5. Items
At the beginning of the game, you must battle against creeps in the first three rounds. Each victory allows you to choose suitable items to equip your Units. If you lose, you won't get to choose items but instead receive them randomly. Try not to be defeated by the creep rounds.
6. Early Game Basic Strategy
A typical strategy early on is to simply purchase some Warrior Heroes like Axe, Tusk, and Tiny. They are high-health units capable of dealing significant damage. Afterwards, you can consider upgrading them or start buying more heroes that fit into your strategy.
