The main beach in Binh Minh was developed by Thang Binh district in 1998 with facilities including parking lots, freshwater bathing areas, and sanitation facilities. After the investment, the district handed it over to the Binh Minh commune People's Committee for exploitation and service to tourists. Over the 15 years since its establishment, both domestic and international tourists have become acquainted with Binh Minh Beach. According to them, it's called 'sand ink' because this seafood species lives in coastal areas with sand. If cuttlefish are harvested in muddy seabed areas, they won't be as tasty.
After catching them, fishermen carefully use specific preservation tools for cuttlefish to prevent their skins from being scratched. Fresh cuttlefish are directly delivered to beachside restaurants.
In these restaurants, chefs will steam the cuttlefish in a traditional way, which is quite simple yet ensures the freshness of this 'sand ink' type.
Just cooked, still in its pouch, blushing pink, fresh and juicy. Diners use their hands to pick up the smoky cuttlefish, dip it into a small bowl of fish sauce mixed with a bit of ginger and chili, accompanied by mint, and banana blossom...
The characteristic delicious aroma makes this dish the 'brand' of Binh Minh Beach, becoming a highlight of Hoi An cuisine.
Spiritual Culture
In addition to enjoying delicious seafood dishes, visitors to Binh Minh can also explore and learn about the unique cultural aspects of this coastal fishing village. These are spiritual cultural activities passed down from generation to generation.
Located about 100m north of the beach, the fisherman's shrine was built by the fishermen of Tan An and Ha Binh villages a long time ago, facing the sea. This is where the fishermen bury their deceased, carefully honoring the fisherman's remains. All fishermen gather to perform rituals and respectfully bury their comrade around the shrine.
Worshiping the fisherman has been preserved by local fishermen and is considered a belief in the seafaring profession. According to fishermen's beliefs, the fisherman is a sea deity who always helps them in times of trouble...
Another unique cultural tradition that visitors are very interested in when visiting Binh Minh beach is during the first days of the lunar new year, from the 4th to the 15th of the first lunar month. Visitors can witness a solemn and respectful fishing prayer ceremony, accompanied by traditional rowing dances and songs. The festival is held before the fishermen set sail, to pray for favorable weather and a bountiful catch.
The traditional rowing songs performed during this fishing prayer ceremony in Binh Minh commune are a unique folk cultural form, recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2013.
Furthermore, every two years, on the first day of the fourth lunar month commemorating the day Uncle Ho visited the fishing village, Thang Binh district organizes a coastal cultural festival. The main venue is Binh Minh Beach, where villages in the district compete in sports events deeply rooted in coastal culture, becoming a common cultural gathering point for fishermen in the district.
Connecting Various Tourist Destinations
Strategically located and connected to many other famous tourist spots in the province, Binh Minh Beach becomes an exciting beach destination or resort getaway.
Starting from here, travelers can head to various other destinations such as Cu Lao Cham (Hoi An). Travelers can follow the coastal Thanh Nien road to Ky Ha Beach – Chu Lai or head north through Cua Dai Bridge to reach the ancient town of Hoi An.
Especially, just about 15km to Dong Duong Pagoda in Binh Dinh Bac commune, you can admire the ancient capital of Indrapura of the Cham people. This is the vestige of a prosperous dynasty that lasted over 100 years in the 10th century. It is known that Binh Minh Beach is attracting investors. Among them, Asia Pacific Ocean Company, a large enterprise, has been granted an investment license by the provincial People's Committee. Specifically, the project will be built on an area of 6ha with an initial investment capital of up to 70 billion VND, including items such as reception houses, conference halls, beach bathing areas, restaurants, high-class resorts, swimming pools, tennis courts…
If these projects are implemented soon, Binh Minh Beach will become an attractive destination, becoming the tourism center of Thang Binh, connecting with many tourist destinations in Hoi An in the near future. From this beach, travelers can visit the famous craft villages in Thang Binh district and even landmarks in neighboring districts.
