Blizzard's strategic move into the NFT gaming realm turns out to be a misstep, contrary to their expectations.
Despite high hopes for NFT games to revolutionize the industry, they currently face significant criticism, particularly from traditional gamers. Major publishers are hesitant about integrating NFT features or investing in new projects. Ubisoft's catastrophic failure led to the deletion of their flagship title. Sega's AAA Super Game NFT project is also under fire from loyal fans. While Blizzard seems inclined towards this idea, they are cautious in their approach.

In a recent development, Blizzard appears to be considering venturing into new technology territory. However, internal turmoil and concerns about negative player reactions prompted them to take a relatively 'peaceful' approach. They conducted a survey to gauge gamers' willingness to integrate NFT features into their games.

The response seems to align with expectations. Specifically, over 70% of survey participants expressed little to no interest, while support was only around 20%, and the rest were indifferent. This subtle move speaks volumes about Blizzard's discretion. Following the results, Mike Ybarra, the current CEO, declared that Blizzard has no intention of launching any NFT game projects.

Internal discord within Blizzard is apparent. Recently, Jorge Murillo, a developer for Overwatch, even posted a status on his personal page titled: 'I vehemently oppose NFTs and will fight to ensure they're not integrated into our games'.

NFT games remain a contentious topic, criticized for their excessive energy consumption and adverse environmental impacts. The proliferation of fraudulent NFT projects has also contributed to a negative perception among many players.
