Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have both positive and negative aspects. This is why Twitter supports Blocking to remove individuals or content with negative impacts.
1. When you block someone on Twitter
What do you achieve when you block someone on Twitter specifically?
- When you block someone:
- The blocked account will automatically unfollow you.
- You will automatically unfollow the blocked account.
- Both accounts will not be able to follow each other in the future (unless unblocked).
- Posts from the blocked account will not appear on your timeline. You can only view them by accessing their profile and clicking View Tweet.
- The blocked account cannot message you; instead, you will receive a notification that they have been blocked.
Essentially, blocking someone prevents them from accessing you anymore, helping you avoid unwanted nuisances.
2. How to block someone on Twitter
As negative and sensitive content increases on Twitter, making you feel annoyed, simply block users you no longer want to see on the platform.
On your computer, go to the Twitter homepage. Click on the magnifying glass icon, then enter the Twitter handle of the person you want to block in the search bar.
Step 1: Go to the Twitter homepage and click on the magnifying glass icon. Then, type the username of the person you wish to block in the search bar and hit enter.
Step 2: Once you see the account of the person you want to block in the search results, click on it to go to their profile.
Step 3: Click on the three-dot icon next to the username of the user you wish to block.
Despite users being blocked, you can still view their Tweets without unblocking them.
3. How to unblock users on Twitter
If you accidentally blocked someone, or want to make a U-turn, you can totally unblock them.
3.1 On computer
Step 1: Open Twitter on your preferred web browser. On the homepage, select More.
Step 2: Choose Settings and privacy from the menu that appears.
Step 3: Proceed to Privacy and safety >> Mute and block.
Step 4: Select Blocked accounts.
Step 5: Tap the red Blocked button to unblock the corresponding user. Repeat this process for other users you want to unblock.
3.2 On mobile
Step 1: Tap on your profile picture thumbnail at the top right corner >> Settings and privacy.
Step 2: Navigate to Privacy and safety >> Mute and block >> Blocked accounts.
Step 3: Tap the red Blocked button next to the corresponding user to unblock them.
You can do the same with other users to unblock them.
