BMW Motorrad has revealed the latest addition to its M lineup: the M 1000 XR. This marks BMW's third 'M' labeled bike following the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R in 2020 and 2022. The M 1000 XR is developed based on the S 1000 XR, S 1000 RR, and M 1000 RR models, serving as a sportbike for long-distance rides with a focus on sporting feel not only on the road but also on the track. BMW states that the 'M' badge 'stands for success in racing worldwide for over 50 years, as well as for BMW's high-performance street models aimed at customers with very high expectations regarding performance, uniqueness, and personality.'
The bike features a four-cylinder in-line 999cc engine from the S 1000 RR with ShiftCam technology as its foundation. The engine's power output is claimed to be over 200 horsepower with a wet weight of 223 kg. The frame technology, aerodynamics, and electronic systems are designed to cater to various riding purposes from street riding, long-distance touring, to track racing. A top speed of around 280 km/h is claimed. Further weight reduction is possible with the M Competition Package. The M 1000 XR features M wings similar to the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, providing higher stability, reducing wheel lift, and enhancing acceleration thanks to improved downforce. Combined with a forward-leaning riding position, the bike offers better control. Like other M-labeled models, the new M 1000 XR also boasts M brakes developed from BMW's experience in WSBK. BMW Motorrad will announce further details about the new M 1000 XR in the second half of 2023.Additional images of the BMW M 1000 XR
