Enhance Work Efficiency with These Word Customizations
Similarly, open any document on Mac, from the menu select Word =>Preferences =>Spelling & Grammar. Here, you will see a range of settings under the Spelling & Grammar section.
Tick the box next to each option to select (or deselect) the options that suit your needs.
Additionally, by clicking on the Settings button, you can activate or deactivate some additional grammar settings such as capitalization, comma usage, and more.
In Word for Windows, you can find this Settings button under the When correcting spelling and grammar in Word section and the Grammar section in Word for Mac.

2. Setting up AutoCorrect
Customizing AutoCorrect settings in Word also helps users save a considerable amount of time.
In Word for Windows, navigate to and select File =>Options =>Proofing. Then, locate and click on the AutoCorrect button at the top corner of the window.
In Word for Mac, find and click on Word from the menu bar =>Preferences =>AutoCorrect.
At this point, a window will appear where you can check the box next to activate or deactivate various AutoCorrect options. Additionally, you can create exceptions by clicking on the Exceptions button => select the Initial Caps tab, enter words with two initial capital letters that you want Word to ignore.
Access the First Letter tab to view existing exceptions for rules and the Other Corrections tab to see other settings. Once finished, click on OK.
Returning to the AutoCorrect window, here you can review current changes and modifications you've made at the bottom corner of the window.
3. Customize Quick Access Toolbar
The Quick Access Toolbar is located at the top left corner of the Word window, allowing users quick access to tools.
By default, this toolbar contains buttons such as Save, Undo, and Redo. However, if you frequently use other tools, you can add them to the Quick Access Toolbar for quicker operations.
To customize the Quick Access Toolbar on Windows, navigate to File => Options => Quick Access Toolbar.
On Mac, customize the toolbar by selecting Word => Preferences => Ribbon & Toolbar. Then, locate and click the Quick Access Toolbar button at the top-right corner of the window.
In the window displayed on your screen, the left pane contains commands you can use, while the right pane features buttons and tools available on the toolbar. To remove an action from the toolbar, simply select it and click the Remove icon (x) located in the middle pane. Similarly, to add an action, select it from the left pane, then click the Add button in the middle pane.
Additionally, you can choose options from the Popular Commands section or click the menu to display a full list of actions available in Word tabs. Select each action from the left pane and add it to the right pane. Once finished, click OK.
To restore the original default commands, simply reopen the Quick Access Toolbar settings window, find and click Reset => Reset only Quick Access Toolbar located in the Customizations section at the bottom corner.
On Mac, click the Settings button (gear icon), select Reset only Quick Access Toolbar.
4. Customize Ribbon Toolbar
To customize the Ribbon toolbar in Word, follow the steps below:
On Windows, go to File => Options => Customize Ribbon.
For Mac users, simply click on Word => Preferences => Ribbon & Toolbar => locate and select the Ribbon button located at the top corner of the window.
Similar to the Quick Access Toolbar customization window, the Ribbon customization window also presents commands on the left pane and actions on the right pane. To move commands, actions onto the Ribbon, simply use the Add (to add) and Remove (to remove) buttons situated in the middle pane.
To adjust the tabs at the top corner of the Word window, just check or uncheck these tabs on the right pane.
To view commands within each tab, simply click the plus icon (on Word for Windows) or the arrow (on Mac).
Finally, to rearrange the order of tabs or commands, on the Windows version, just select these tabs and click the arrow icon on the right to move them up or down the list. On the Mac version, you can drag and drop items to rearrange them.
5. Customize the Status Bar
On Windows, right-click on the Status Bar. On Mac, right-click on the Status Bar or press and hold the Control key while clicking on the Status Bar.
At this moment, the screen will display the menu where you can check the items you want to show on the Status Bar.
