When it comes to formatting, you might think of SD Formatter, a software for quick data formatting, or perhaps you often use PenFormat when formatting a drive or USB with certain data. However, when reinstalling Windows, we don't typically use these two programs. In this article, Mytour extracts a portion of the Windows 7 installation process, which involves selecting and formatting Drive C to delete the data.
Guide to formatting Drive C, clearing data on Drive C when reinstalling Windows
Installing Windows from a USB device, installation disk, or even from the hard drive is possible. After running the setup program, choose Install Now
Proceed to select the Windows version you want to install. In the Which type of installation do you want? section, you have two options: 1. Upgrade an older operating system to Win7 (Upgrade), 2. Choose to install a completely new operating system Custom (advanced). Here, we are discussing a fresh installation, so let's focus on this part.
Format Drive C, Clear Data When Reinstalling Windows
After selecting Custom (advanced), your computer will choose Partition.
What is Partition?
Partition is understood as a division, typically, each computer divides into drives like C, D, E, F... then each of these is considered a Partition.
Back to the article. If your computer only has one Partition, there's nothing to discuss because there's no other partition to choose from. We are talking about a computer with at least 2 Partitions to choose from.
Right after this step, you need to format Drive C, clearing the data on it. Here, you select the partition where you want to install Windows and then proceed to the options like Delete, New, or Format. If the options Delete, New, or Format don't appear, click on the Disk option (Advanced) to make them visible:
- To Format Partition, choose Format and then click Next.
However, this choice differs slightly from the Format option. Deleting causes the partition to be lost instead of retained, unlike Format. Therefore, after deletion, you will have to take one more step, which is creating a new partition.
To create a new partition, choose New (1), then select Size (2) for the partition, measured in Mb (1Gb equals 1024 Mb). After selecting the desired capacity for the partition, proceed to Apply (3) and then select Next (4). Refer to the image below for more information.
That's how you Format or delete data when reinstalling Windows. This is a step in the Windows installation process that you should read carefully to ensure a smooth installation.
