Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is one of the most expensive cities in the world. After several trips to Tokyo, I've gained insights to have an economical yet enjoyable experience.
Budget-Friendly Tokyo Travel Tips Under 1 Million Dong a Day
Accommodation:
There are numerous places where you can spend the night in Tokyo. Central areas like Shinjuku, Akihabara, Ginza, or Tokyo's central station are convenient for transportation and nighttime entertainment. However, staying in these areas can often be expensive. Therefore, opting for slightly more distant areas with lower costs while still having easy access to transportation, thanks to Tokyo's convenient train system, is advisable.

If you're looking for affordable accommodation, consider staying in hostels within approximately a 5 km radius of Tokyo Station. Prices for a night's stay (per bed) range from 150,000 to 200,000 dong.
Getting Around:
To navigate Tokyo, you can use trains, buses, taxis, and walking. Among these options, trains are the most convenient and cost-effective. Buses also offer convenient transportation with reasonable fares, although they have fewer routes and destinations compared to trains.

The lowest fare for a train ride is around 140-170 yen (depending on the route). For travelers with planned itineraries and frequent movement, purchasing a day pass can be economical. On average, daily transportation (including walking + train rides) costs around 1,000-1,500 yen (approximately 200,000-300,000 dong).
Dining:
When traveling in Tokyo on a budget, you can opt to eat at convenient stores like Family Mart, Lawson, 7Eleven... However, meals from these stores may not always offer the best culinary experiences, lacking in traditional Japanese dishes. You can also enjoy meals at roadside eateries or at train stations, bus terminals... Prices range from 200-500 yen (approximately 40,000-100,000 dong) per meal, with higher-end options nearing 1,000 yen (around 200,000 dong).

While visiting Tokyo, you can purchase drinks from convenience stores and then refill them at public drinking fountains, hotels, restaurants (the water from fountains in Tokyo is clean, so you can drink it without boiling).
On average, daily expenditure on food amounts to approximately 250,000 dong.
Sightseeing:
Many attractions in Tokyo offer free admission. Depending on preferences and budget, travelers exploring Tokyo can choose suitable attractions.

In my opinion, some must-visit spots include Ueno Park, Akihabara district, Ginza district, Shinjuku district, Harajuku district, Odaiba district, Tsukiji Fish Market, Imperial Palace, Asakusa Kannon Temple, Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Tower, Disneyland...
The most important aspect for every traveler stepping into a new destination is the experience. Each person will have different ways of experiencing, tailored to their needs and financial capabilities.
