Recently, Vivo has unveiled a fresh iteration of the Y series named Vivo Y53s in our local market. Besides its incredibly attractive design, this device also boasts many modern technologies upgraded from its predecessors like Y51 or Y50.
Let's dive into what upgrades this smartphone brings, but first, let's briefly touch on its exterior design!
Youthful, attractive design suitable for young users
The design of the Y53s can be described as youthful and eye-catching, which has been a characteristic feature of the Vivo Y series. Although it's made entirely from Polycarbonate plastic, the finish and color scheme, resembling a mirror finish, will make you fall in love at first sight.

The rear camera cluster is designed similarly to premium Vivo models, making the back panel more streamlined and creating a focal point for the rear. Coupled with the fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, the back of the Vivo Y53s becomes even more minimalist.
Turning to the front, the Y53s features a 6.58-inch IPS LCD screen, Full HD+ resolution with a fairly high brightness of up to 450 nits, similar to the previous Vivo Y51. It's somewhat regrettable that it still has a waterdrop notch display, although it doesn't significantly affect the display quality.

Next up are the upgrades of the Vivo Y53s compared to its predecessors.
Exclusive RAM expansion technology
While the previous 2 generations had 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, the Y53s brings a significant change as it can dynamically allocate memory to have a larger RAM capacity from internal storage.

That's the exclusive RAM upgrade technology previously only seen in high-end Vivo smartphones. This feature allows the Y53s to increase its RAM by an additional 3 GB from the internal memory. This boosts the device's configuration to a whopping 11 GB of RAM.
Specifically, this can be seen as a form of virtualization, partitioning memory on the ROM and assigning RAM functionality to it. While this technology is not new on PCs, it's still not widely used on mobile devices.

With the powerful Helio G80 chipset and a massive RAM capacity, the Y53s promises even better multitasking capabilities. Basic apps and games will perform optimally, delivering an enhanced entertainment experience.
Significant upgrade in charging technology
While still sporting a 5,000 mAh battery, the Vivo Y53s has been upgraded with much faster charging technology, up to 33 W compared to 18 W on the Y51. This is significant as it helps users drastically reduce charging time for the massive battery of the device.

Now, you only need 41 minutes to charge 70% of this 5,000 mAh battery and just over 1 hour 30 minutes to fully charge it. This impressive figure can be a lifesaver in emergency situations.
Additionally, Vivo is generous in including a 33 W fast charger in the box, saving users from having to spend money on expensive fast chargers.
More focus on camera quality
The main camera on the Y53s has undergone a significant change, with its resolution increased to 64 MP instead of the previous 48 MP. Photos taken with the Y53s exhibit better detail and color accuracy, aided by its 2 auxiliary cameras, allowing for more precise background blur and improved close-up shots.

Not only has the resolution been increased, but the camera software on the Y53s also comes with more features, including electronic image stabilization (EIS), night mode, and background blur removal. Thanks to new algorithms, the main camera on the Y53s delivers more stable, blur-free photos with clear subjects. Night photography has also seen improvements in detail and color.
With a 16 MP selfie camera on the Y53s, there's no doubt about its capabilities, from skin tone accuracy to professional-grade background blur simulation. If you enjoy taking selfies, this option is definitely hard to overlook.

It's safe to say that while the Vivo Y53s may not boast high-end specifications or powerful hardware, it still strikes a balance and effectively meets the essential needs of young users. If the Y51 was the best-selling model in Q1/2021, then the Y53s is likely to continue that trend.
