Carbon Beach is the exclusive retreat for numerous affluent entrepreneurs and globally renowned artists. Recently, a new pathway has been unveiled, allowing external visitors to explore and indulge in leisure activities.
Tycoon's Haven in California
Carbon, renowned as the beachfront haven of billionaires, graces the picturesque coastline of Malibu, California, USA. After decades of restricting access to tourists, the beach has finally opened its gates.
This stems from the decision of affluent landowners Lisette and Norman Ackerberg, who opted not to construct a shared pathway to the beach as per the government's request.

The controversy dates back to the 1980s when the California Coastal Commission granted the Ackerberg family the right to establish regulations regarding the construction of a pathway to the beach adjacent to their residence.
However, the Ackerberg family has hindered legal proceedings and built a 2-meter-high wall around the area, along with the building's tennis court, making it impossible for outsiders to access the beach. These affluent residents have employed every measure to keep the beach away from tourists and locals alike.
Carbon has become the residence of many world-famous billionaires such as Larry Ellison, the former CEO of Oracle Corp, David Geffen, a prominent figure in the film industry, and Jamie McCourt, the former CEO of the Dodgers. In addition, Carbon Beach has also hosted renowned dancer John Travolta and famous actress Courteney Cox.
However, in 2013, the Coastal Commission reached an agreement with Lisette Acherberg (her husband Norman passed away in 2004). She had to pay $1.1 million and construct and maintain a shared pathway to the beach for everyone.
Today, visitors can access the beach via the Carbon West route from sunrise to sunset. According to the commission's plan, the seaside city of Malibu will open 18 additional pathways to various beaches.
