What is VNeID?
VNeID is an electronic identification app designed for smart mobile devices, developed by the National Population Data Center of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam. The app is issued for both Vietnamese citizens and foreigners residing or traveling long-term in Vietnam.
With the ability to replace personal documents, VNeID electronic identification level 2 is now officially PERMITTED for domestic air travel procedures at all airports nationwide, starting from 2/8/2023.
Passengers can use VNeID level 2 accounts in all aviation procedures, including: check-in, security screening, and boarding gate procedures.
When going through the air travel procedures, for Vietnamese citizens, VNeID accounts are equivalent to ID cards; for foreigners, VNeID accounts are equivalent to passports or other valid international travel documents.

However, passengers are not obligated to use VNeID for flight procedures and can still use traditional air travel documents as per aviation regulations until now.
Steps for using VNeID in air travel procedures
Passengers should understand how to use VNeID accounts for air travel procedures quickly and conveniently:
Step 1: Log in to the application
Passengers log in to the VNeID app with a level 2 security on their smartphones. Access the Personal section and activate the feature 'Verify the app via QR code'.

Step 2: Generate a QR code for electronic identification
On the app's homepage, passengers create a QR code for electronic identification. This code will be valid for 60 seconds. If not used within this timeframe, passengers will need to generate a new QR code.

Step 3: Scan the QR code
Airline staff using VNeID level 2 application scan the passenger's QR code to verify that the information is accurate. The result will be displayed immediately on the app screen.
Step 4: Verify and present information
After successful verification, passengers present their integrated national ID card in the Document Wallet section of the VNeID app for airline staff to proceed with further procedures.

Notes when using VNeID for air travel
For a more convenient experience using VNeID for air travel, passengers need to take note of the following:
- It's advisable to carry personal documents as a backup in case of network issues, forgotten passwords, dead phones, sudden malfunctions, etc., preventing access to the VNeID app.
- Proactively open documents in the VNeID app and hand them to staff for inspection as soon as it's your turn in the procedure. Avoid the situation where fumbling with the app upon arrival at the counter causes delays.
- Check the expiration date on your National ID card; if it's expired, it's not valid. Passengers will need to switch to other integrated documents on VNeID, such as driver's licenses, passports, etc.
