Can children over 14 use birth certificates for air travel?
According to current regulations, citizens aged 14 and older must possess personal identification documents such as national identity cards, passports,... to travel by air. Therefore, children over 14 CANNOT use birth certificates for flight procedures anymore.
Specifically, when purchasing airline tickets, passengers aged 14 and above holding Vietnamese nationality must present one of the following documents:
- National identity card or Citizen identification card
- Passport or Travel document
- Exit visa, permanent residence card, or temporary residence card
- Identity confirmation document issued by local police where permanent or temporary residence is registered, with attached photo and stamp. The document is valid for 30 days from the date of issue and can only be used for domestic flights.

- Children over 14 years old:
For children over 14 years old, they can absolutely travel by plane alone and need to present their identity card or passport, or personal identification papers during procedures. Especially, children can handle procedures at the airport without the presence of a guardian.
