During the event on 14/09, Canon unveiled the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM prime wide-angle lens, featuring a compact body and weighing only 165 grams.
Canon expresses the viewpoint that sacrificing, choosing between optical precision or sharpness is no longer necessary. The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is a lens that achieves compactness, captures light well, especially with better sharpness, faster autofocus. It is suitable for many situations, including landscapes, architecture, and with its lightweight and small size, it also works well for vlogging.
The optical design consists of 9 elements in 7 groups, including a spherical element and is equipped with Super Spectra coating. The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM has a filter diameter of 43mm and 7 aperture blades. Unfortunately, this lens lacks image stabilization on the lens itself and relies on sensor-based stabilization on Canon bodies.
In terms of focusing capabilities, this lens utilizes Canon's gear-type stepping motor. The focusing ring on the lens body can rotate 360 degrees without any angle restrictions. This ring can serve as a focus ring or a customizable function ring, depending on a switch toggle on the lens body. Additionally, there is no AF-MF switch on the lens body. The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM has a 108° FOV, 0.26X magnification, and a closest focusing distance of 13 cm.The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM will be released in October with a price tag of $300.Feel free to check out more images captured with this lens below:
