Overview of the Cơ Hạ garden. @Collected
According to various historical documents, in the early 19th century, Cơ Hạ Street was a place for princes to study. In 1837, King Minh Mạng upgraded it to a royal garden. During the reign of King Thiệu Trị (1841 - 1847), many pavilions were added, with the most notable being the poetic Lang field surrounding the structures, known as the Four Corners Ninh Mật Hồi Lang.
The significance of the name Cơ Hạ
The name Cơ Hạ Garden is derived from 'Vạn Cơ Thanh Hạ,' meaning peace in all circumstances. The explanation for this name is that the Nguyen dynasty kings built the Cơ Hạ Garden for relaxation, scenic views, and strolls after busy and exhausting hours. Constructing Cơ Hạ Garden right next to the Imperial City also saved costs and was very convenient for moving from the inner palace to here.
