The first time I saw him, he ran towards me under the sunny backyard. Sunshine seemed to enjoy playing with me; he often stayed by my side while I helped my grandparents with household chores. Every evening, I would take him for a stroll around the garden. One day, when I planned to take Sunshine for a walk, he was nowhere to be found. The kennel door had been wide open since who knows when. It was probably left open during lunch, and I forgot to close it. We searched until late at night but couldn't find him. I cried my eyes out worrying about the little dog. Surprisingly, the next morning, Sunshine returned from wherever he had been, with a face and paws covered in dirt, as if he had just engaged in a fierce battle. Seeing him, I was overjoyed, rushing to hug the little dog. Sunshine rubbed against my cheek and barked happily. I quickly got him food and water; he must have been hungry after a night of wandering. I felt so fortunate that Sunshine was safe. When I bid farewell to my grandparents and headed home, they gave Sunshine back to me as a gift. Around noon, Ngoc felt tired. Checking her temperature, I discovered she had a fever. I was worried as I had never taken care of a sick person before. I quickly borrowed the neighbor's phone to call mom. Mom advised me to stay calm, take out the fever-reducing medicine from the drawer, and reassure Ngoc. Despite Ngoc's fear of the bitter taste, she refused to take the medicine. I had to resort to using my own lollipop to coax her into taking it. After that, Ngoc felt better. I sat and read stories to her as she lay down. Around noon, mom returned to cook lunch for both of us.
Even though I only helped my parents care for Ngoc one morning, I successfully completed the assigned task. I felt proud of what I accomplished. Moreover, during a morning at home with Ngoc, my sister and I had more time to communicate with each other.
Taking care of Ngoc when she was unwell made me feel a bit more grown-up. It was like when parents or relatives would say, 'You seem a bit taller again after this summer.' I realized I not only grew physically but could also do more to assist my parents, deserving the role of the eldest sibling in the family.
