Casio recently unveiled a new model in the Pro Trek series tailored for outdoor enthusiasts, adventurers, and explorers – the Casio Pro Trek PRW-61. The standout feature of the PRW-61 is its entirely bioplastic casing, back, and strap made from biobased materials like corn and similar organic substances.Since the mid-1990s, the Casio Pro Trek watch series has been equipped with numerous features for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, sports, etc. Now, the renowned Japanese watchmaker is aiming to reduce carbon emissions in watch production by using bioplastic materials for the new Pro Trek PRW-61 model, all of which are organic and renewable. These bioplastics have a higher degree of biodegradability compared to conventional plastics used in Casio watches until now.
Crafted from biodegradable plastic, the new casing measures 51mm, granting the PRW-61 resilience to temperatures as low as -10°C and waterproof up to a depth of 100m. Its core houses a solar-powered quartz mechanism, featuring power-saving capabilities and a rechargeable battery, allowing it to operate for 6 months without charging or up to 25 months with solar charging.
To maintain precise atomic timekeeping, the PRW-61 employs Casio's Multi-Band 6 feature, capable of receiving time signals up to 6 times a day within the coverage of compatible radio wave transmitters in Germany, Japan, the United States, or China.
Other standout features include a digital compass with two-way calibration and deviation adjustment, a barometer with a graph display, altitude measurement with memory, a thermometer, world time with automatic time adjustment and timezone swapping, alarm functionality, a stopwatch, and a Super Illuminator LED light.
The PRW-61 comes in 3 variants: PRW-61Y-3 in khaki and black, priced at approximately $544, PRW-61Y-1B in black, also at $544, and finally, PRW-61-1A in dual-tone black and silver, available for $524.
