CD Projekt Red expands the Cyberpunk gaming universe
The concept of cinematic universes is familiar to many, a collection of films and events unfolding within the same 'universe' crafted by filmmakers, leading eventually to all storylines converging in a grand spectacle. We've witnessed cinematic universes like Marvel, Star Wars, Tolkien... but in the realm of video games, there hasn't been a truly expansive and coherent gaming universe yet.
This underscores CD Projekt Red's grand ambition as they embark on creating the largest gaming universe to date within the Cyberpunk setting. And the game title Cyberpunk 2077 set to release in 2020 will be the first shot fired in the opening of their gaming universe. Alongside Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has plans for their next 2 gaming projects: one being the multiplayer version of Cyberpunk 2077, and the other, a completely new untitled game within the Cyberpunk universe. These details were confirmed by CD Projekt Red's CEO, Adam Kiciński, during a recent conference speech.
Originating as a highly successful independent developer with the renowned game series The Witcher, the ambition to build a vast Cyberpunk gaming universe certainly lies within reach. Additionally, the involvement of Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves adds to the allure of Cyberpunk 2077, attracting a significant global gamer audience who pre-ordered the game in large numbers, eagerly anticipating its official release in May 2020.
