There are two different Skype applications on the Windows operating system. One is Skype Preview, which is preinstalled on Windows 10. The other is Skype Desktop, the traditional version we often use, which will automatically launch and log into your account after the first login. Below is a guide to help you address this issue.
GUIDE TO TURNING OFF AUTOMATIC SKYPE BACKGROUND OPERATION
1. For Skype Preview Application
If you install Skype Preview
Open the Start Menu and launch the Skype Preview app. You can type the keyword 'Skype Preview' or search under the 'S' category in the list of installed apps on the Start Menu.
Click on your account avatar at the bottom left corner of the Skype Preview window.
Select Sign Out to exit your Skype account. The next time you launch the Skype Preview app, it will prompt you to log back into your account.
2. For Skype Desktop Version for Windows
The traditional version of Skype operates similarly to Skype Preview. The app will automatically start with your system and log into your Skype account, making you appear online and available for messages and calls. You can prevent this by configuring Skype Desktop not to launch with Windows.
To do this, launch the Skype desktop app (not Skype Preview), then in the app window, select Tools => Options.
In the General Settings tab, uncheck the option 'Start Skype when I start Windows', then click Save. Skype will no longer automatically launch until you start it manually.
Prevent Skype Desktop from Running in the Background
Even when you close Skype, the application may still linger in the background. To completely shut down Skype, locate the Skype icon in the system tray next to the clock. Then right-click on the Skype icon and select Quit.
Hoping that the above method can help you deal with the annoyance of Skype.
