#CES21: Samsung's Bot Handy, the 'assistant' robot, excels in both dishwashing and water pouring
Buzz
Every CES, Samsung unveils adorable concept robots with impressive features. Last year, at CES 2020, Samsung presented Ballie, a rolling robot that managed pets throughout the house, equipped with a camera to monitor the home when people were away. Another robot showcased by Samsung at CES 2020 had two 'kitchen' arms mounted on the ceiling, proficient at cooking various delicious dishes. This year, at CES 2021, Samsung brings us Bot Handy, a robot that not only cleans but also keeps an eye on the house.Bot Handy serves as both an intelligent vacuum cleaner and an assistant with arms to tidy up or bring things for us. Through cameras and AI, Bot Handy can recognize objects we want the robot to interact with. During the livestream event, President of Samsung Research, Sebastian Seung, mentioned that this robot is 'a helper in the kitchen, living room, or anywhere you need its assistance.'
In the current concept, Bot Handy is designed for comfortable height adjustments, featuring a screen simulating two cheerful-looking eyes. The robot has a robotic arm with three movable points at the shoulder, elbow, and wrist for maximum freedom of movement. Bot Handy's 'hand' is designed with a clamp structure, and through AI, the robot can recognize the material and weight of objects it interacts with, using appropriate force, such as picking up towels or dishes. The camera on its head is used for object recognition and navigation. Bot Handy moves on a wheel system similar to the smart vacuum cleaners many people have at home.Alongside Bot Handy, Samsung introduces the new version of Bot Care, the 'companion' first introduced in 2019. Bot Care features a screen for users to communicate with others. In the 2019 version, Samsung oriented it towards health management, with sensors for blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate, notifying users of medication times. However, the new version of Bot Care is geared more towards assisting users with daily tasks. Both Bot Care and Bot Handy are currently in development and do not have a commercial release date. Meanwhile, the JetBot 90 AI+ vacuum robot will be available in the U.S. early this year. Equipped with LIDAR sensors and AI to avoid obstacles, JetBot 90 AI+ also features a camera to both clean the floor and act as a robotic butler when everyone is away.As per The Verge
