Causes of computer time and date errors
- Computers or laptops may fail to retain power when shut down, resulting in the time resetting to default upon reboot. This issue is often caused by a depleted CMOS battery. The CMOS battery is typically installed on the motherboard of the computer or laptop, so if the cause is indeed the CMOS battery's inability to retain power, you may successfully adjust the date and time on the computer accurately, but upon shutdown and reboot, the time will revert to the default setting. The solution is to replace the CMOS battery to completely resolve the issue.
- Computer viruses can also cause time and date errors on computers. If you encounter this issue, simply use antivirus software to scan and address it. Refer to the top 2019 antivirus software list for the best free options shared by Mytour for additional selection information.
- Incorrect settings by yourself or a previous user may cause the computer to incorrectly recognize time zones, resulting in the computer time not matching reality. To learn how to set the date and time, adjust the computer time accurately, and minimize errors, follow the steps below.
