Changing the Default Background Color in Illustrator
Follow these steps to change the default background color in Illustrator:
Step 1: Open Adobe Illustrator. First, double-click to open the Illustrator application, then click on File
Step 2: Click on File in the menu bar.
Step 3: Click on Document Setup.... This option is located near the bottom corner of the menu as shown in the image below.
Step 4: In the Transparency section, locate and tick the box labeled Simulate Colored Paper.
Step 5: Click on the color palette icon located on the right side within the Transparency section as depicted in the image below.
Step 6: Choose a color for the background by clicking on the color icon, then adjust the brightness using the slider.
Once completed, the new color will be displayed at the bottom left corner of the color palette in the dialog box.
Step 7: Click on the color template and drag it into the empty square on the right.
Step 8: Close the dialog box by clicking on the red X icon.
Step 9: Click on the color template below, to the right of the Transparency section as shown in the image below.
Step 10: Click on the color template you just saved. This template is located in the small square at the bottom right corner of the dialog box where you dragged the color.
Step 11: Close the dialog box by clicking on the red X icon. All color templates and grid layouts must be the colors you set.
Step 12: Click on OK to close the Document Setup dialog box.
Step 13: Click on View in the menu bar.
Step 14: Click on Show Transparency Grid located at the bottom right corner of the menu. At this point, the default background color in Illustrator will change to the background color you specified.
