Windows uses a type of file to set virtual ram, store data when ram is full, and that's Pagefile. Normally Windows will automatically adjust to fit best, however, you can manually adjust to increase efficiency. Although this is a temporary method, and setting virtual ram does not help much when you play games, or on machines with large RAM.
For machines with low ram, it's a different story, the system will take capacity from your HDD, and help you experience tasks like web browsing better.
Guide to resize and relocate Pagefile on windows.
Step 1: First, press the Windows + X key combination to open the Menu, select System.
Step 2: In System, select Advanced system settings.
Step 3: In System Properties, select Settings.
Step 4: In Settings, click on the Advanced tab and then click Change.
Step 5: Go to the Virtual Memory section where you have 2 choices, click on Automatically to let the system automatically change the size in the machine or you can choose Custom size to set the virtual RAM size yourself.
Click on Set to set virtual RAM.
Step 6: Back out and you will see Virtual memory has been set, restart the machine for the system to take effect.
Step 7: If you want to change the location of Pagefile from the default C drive to another drive, go back to Virtual Memory, select the other drive (for example, drive D).
Click on System managed size then SET.
Step 8: When drive D reports System managed, the process of transferring Pagefile on the machine from drive C to drive D was successful.
You can check on drive D, note that this file format is hidden so you need to turn off the hidden mode.
