The strength, talent, and wisdom of Sơn Tinh are demonstrated through the marriage competition initiated by King Hùng. The eighteenth Hùng King desires a worthy husband for his daughter, thus he presents a marriage proposal consisting of “a hundred servings of glutinous rice, a hundred bundles of chung cakes, and elephants with nine tusks, cocks with nine spurs, horses with nine red manes, each in pairs.” The following morning, whoever arrives first, Sơn Tinh or Thủy Tinh, will win Mị Nương's hand in marriage. Being a mountain dweller, Sơn Tinh is well aware of these customs. He prepares thoroughly and successfully marries Mị Nương through his wit and agility.
Not only that, but also the power of Mountain Deity is manifested in the battle with Water Deity. Water Deity is the God of Water, enraged for failing to win Lady Mi so he chased after to snatch her. Water Deity summoned rain, called winds to create storms shaking the earth and sky, raising river waters to attack Mountain Deity. However, Mountain Deity remained steadfast, resolute in will, and used miraculous powers to move hills, shift mountains, erect earth ramparts, and block floodwaters. Both sides fought evenly for 'several months' and ultimately victory belonged to the Mountain Deity. Exhausted, Water Deity had to retreat. Mountain Deity didn't directly harm the enemy but used the power to move mountains, erect barriers to thwart Water Deity's attack. These actions didn't negatively affect human life. This is indeed a benevolent deity, considering the lives of the working people. It can be said that Mountain Deity always stands with the people to help and protect them from disasters, floods. At the same time, folk authors convey lessons about solidarity, love, and bonding among peers through this character's image.
Mountain Deity not only carries supernatural powers but also enduring strength. When Water Deity weakened, Mountain Deity still fought steadfastly to the end. That strength symbolizes the strength of humans, of our Vietnamese nation. People always wish for a comfortable life, to control natural disasters to focus on production, improving living standards.

This is a creation of our people, the image of a labor hero using all their strength to reform, control nature. No matter how harsh nature is, humans will resist its destruction and seek ways to overcome, protect life. Every year, our people build embankments to prevent floods, demonstrating human awareness of controlling nature.
