Châu Đốc Cave Temple – A renowned spiritual haven with colossal mythical serpents
Perched on the slopes of Mount Sam, within the jurisdiction of Châu Đốc city, An Giang province, Phước Điền Temple, or Hang Châu Đốc Temple, is a renowned scenic gem in the southwestern region of Vietnam.
Hang Châu Đốc Temple took shape around 1840 – 1850, founded by Ms. Lê Thị Thơ (also known as Mrs. Thợ), with the Dharma name Diệu Thiện. Driven by admiration for the kindness of Diệu Thiện, Mr. Phạm Thông, or Nguyễn Ngọc Cang, along with the people of Châu Đốc and the surrounding region, willingly contributed funds to rebuild the temple in 1885. In 1937, Venerable Thích Huệ Thiện initiated the second refurbishment and upgrade of the temple. Since then, the temple has undergone multiple restoration and repair efforts.


Upon arrival, visitors will be impressed by the vibrant red tiled roofs, captivating and harmonizing with the predominant wooden hues of the temple, creating an extremely warm and inviting space. The intricate carvings on each column within the temple are meticulously crafted, showcasing unique and remarkable beauty.
