This is the first smartphone from the brand Nothing, showcased early by YouTuber MKBHD (scheduled for release on 07/12). This Nothing Phone 1 sports a distinctive design with a transparent back, allowing users to see details underneath like the LED strip surrounding the camera, positioned centrally and just below the charging port.Watch the video here:In the MKBHD video, the focus primarily lies on the rear side of Nothing Phone 1 rather than elaborating on the front display. Perhaps, Nothing simply aims to unveil the rear design to users beforehand.
Moreover, when users charge their phones, the strip of light near the USB-C port also illuminates according to the charging level. While this illumination dims after a while, users only need to shake the phone for this light to automatically come back on, serving as a way to check whether the phone is fully charged or not.
All the light strips on Nothing Phone 1 illuminate simultaneously to provide additional lighting when users take photos: for example, capturing nearby objects or shooting in low-light conditions without necessarily using a separate flash. The device also features a blinking red dot at the rear while users are recording videos.
This LED light will flash based on the phone ringtone, with up to 10 ringtone styles in the settings of Nothing Phone 1, each featuring different LED flashing patterns. Users can also customize the LED flashing for each app notification individually.
In terms of design, Nothing Phone 1 may be easily mistaken for an iPhone 12 due to the rear camera cluster and overall form factor. However, based on what I've seen in the video, this is undeniably a very beautiful, innovative smartphone, with something quite distinct from today's smartphones. Nothing also maintains the unique translucent design they previously implemented in their ear (1) product.
In the video, we can observe the front screen with uniformly thin bezels, and the selfie camera is punched at the top left corner of the screen. The image also depicts Nothing Phone 1's dedicated app for users to adjust the LED lights on the back: brightness, customizing flashing patterns based on sound, notifications, and more. For details regarding the device's interface, hardware specifications, operating system, pricing, and more, we'll have to wait for the unveiling event of Nothing Phone 1 on 12/07.
