Chilling with Friends for Vietnamese Cuisine
On a refreshing weekend, my gang and I gather to eat and drink, our usual spot as always: Quan An Ngon Royal City straight ahead!
Exploring Royal Palace got a bit dull, so we all dashed into Quán Ăn Ngon when it was bustling with customers and our stomachs were growling. The rich aroma of bún riêu, the tantalizing scent of sizzling bánh xèo, the savory fragrance of freshly steamed bánh bột lọc, and the mouthwatering smell of grilled fish, pork, and chicken mixed together, making everyone's stomachs rumble!

We love going to Quán Ăn Ngon partly because they have delicious dishes from all regions...
We ordered a batch of boiled meat vermicelli with shrimp paste, a plate of seafood mango salad, a batch of shrimp cakes, and six of us dug in enthusiastically. Whether it's because we've been wandering around Royal Palace on an empty stomach and tired, every time we come here, we find Quán Ăn Ngon's food a bit tastier!

Delicious food at affordable prices, and we also like the seating arrangements here!
I love snacking, so that day, we were all 'brave warriors' devouring shrimp cakes. We ate and still wanted to order another plate because we were craving for more. The shrimp cakes at Quán Ăn Ngon are perfectly round, with a crispy golden crust, soft and fragrant sweet potato filling, and a flavorful, fresh shrimp filling. Plus, the dipping sauce is perfectly balanced, making every bite delightful. It's so addictive, you just can't stop!
Seeing that, my friend bragged about how her sister's friend used to work at Quán Ăn Ngon and taught her how to make shrimp cakes. She promised to make them for me until I begged her to stop. Here's her simple yet mouthwatering recipe, you should give it a try!
Preparing the ingredients for shrimp cakes
+ 1 sweet potato, 150g wheat flour, 50g cornstarch, fresh shrimp
+ Turmeric powder, salt, 5g each of chili powder, black pepper powder, 13g seasoning powder, 53g sugar, 40ml fish sauce, 5ml vinegar, cooking oil
+ Garlic, shallots, lettuce, herbs, cucumber, pickled onions
First, clean the sweet potato, peel it, slice it into strips, soak it in salted water for about 15 minutes, then drain it.
Clean the shrimp, remove the head, legs, peel, devein, marinate with minced garlic, shallots, 2g salt, 3g seasoning powder, 2g black pepper, 3g sugar, mix well.

3 simple preparation steps
Mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, turmeric powder, chili powder, and 5g of seasoning powder with about 250ml of water, stir until completely dissolved. Dip the sweet potato into the batter, coat evenly.
Heat cooking oil over high heat, wait until it's hot, then use a spoon to scoop a small amount of the sweet potato batter into the pan, forming small round shapes. Place a shrimp in the center, fry until golden brown, then remove. You can use soaked dried shrimp or quickly marinate fresh shrimp to enhance the flavor before frying.

Keep an eye on the heat, don't let the batter burn, to retain the deliciousness!
Heat a mixture of 100ml water + 40ml tasty fish sauce + 5ml vinegar + 50g sugar, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. You can add minced garlic, chili, carrots, and pickled radish to the dipping sauce bowl to make it more aromatic, flavorful, and visually appealing.

A delicious dipping sauce is one of the secrets to making the dish flavorful and rich.
