1. Selecting a Clothes Dryer for the Damp Season
Clothes dryers are becoming increasingly popular in Vietnam, with a variety of models ranging in price from a few hundred thousand to millions of dong.
Clothes dryers, in general, have been around in Vietnam for a while but have become more common and diverse in the last three years. These devices help dry clothes quickly after washing, usually within a few hours, making them very useful in Vietnam's weather conditions, especially in the North, where there are often many damp, cloudy days with little sunshine. In addition to drying capabilities, some models also incorporate antibacterial features, ensuring cleaner clothes than traditional air drying.
Clothes dryers are now divided into three main types:
Clothes Drying Cabinets
These are the cheapest products, mostly under 2 million dong. With just 500,000 dong, users can purchase a product. The advantage of this type is the low price and the ability to dry large amounts of clothes, from 10 to 15 kg, equivalent to about 12 sets. The design of the product is simple and easy to install. When not in use, it can be disassembled and stored neatly in a bag or used as a regular clothes hanger.

The Structure of Clothes Dryer Cabinets is Simple. They are made of fabric in either cylindrical or rectangular box shapes. Clothes are hung or placed on the top frame. The drying principle involves using a hot air blower at around 70°C from bottom to top. The differences between various dryer cabinet models lie in drying capacity and cabinet size. Some more expensive products include additional features like UV sterilization and remote control for scheduling. Their drawback is the long drying time, taking up to several hours, even half a day, resulting in high electricity consumption, despite having a power range from 900 to 1,500 W. With a simple structure and the drying component placed at the bottom, users need to wring out all the water from the clothes to prevent dripping, which could cause malfunction in the drying component. These products mainly come from Vietnamese and Chinese brands.

Clothes dryers come in sizes and prices comparable to horizontal washing machines. However, the prices of clothes dryers in general are high, with some costing 5 or 6 million dong, and others reaching tens of millions, similar to washing machines. The cheaper types usually have a drying capacity of around 7 kg, half that of dryer cabinets. With this type, users need to prepare space for installation in the home. To save space, clothes dryers can be placed on top of horizontal washing machines. Clothes dryers are also categorized by technologies such as condensing drying, steam drying, and heat pump drying, which differ in installation methods. Users need to research beforehand to make suitable choices. Brands in this product line are diverse, often from well-known washing machine and household appliance manufacturers.
Mini Clothes Dryers Compared to the two aforementioned product lines, mini dryers are not as popular in Vietnam. They have the advantage of being compactly designed, easy to move, and reasonably priced, ranging from 2 to 3 million dong.

Mini washing and drying machines are compact but suitable for children's clothes and personal use. However, these compact product lines have limited clothes drying capacity. The storage capacity is measured in liters, usually divided into two types: 15 liters or 35 liters. Therefore, they are suitable for personal use rather than for families. They are also suitable for drying small, thin items, children's clothes, towels, and diapers due to their sterilization feature. Compared to regular clothes dryers, these small-sized products do not have a tumble dryer. Clothes, shirts, and items are placed or hung on hooks inside, which may cause wrinkles after drying.
