1. Christmas Scene Script 1
CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF THE LORD
Theme: 'NIGHT OF PEACE'
MC1: Let us now gather together to welcome our esteemed priests, nuns, and guests as we prepare for the joyful Christmas prayer and celebration for the year xxxx.
MC2: It is my honor to announce, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, the overview of tonight's Christmas Eve program.
The Christmas Eve program consists of 3 parts:
Part One: Opening ceremony to welcome Christmas
Part Two: Christmas vigil under the theme 'NIGHT OF PEACE'
Part Three: CHRISTMAS EVE MASS
MC1: Tonight, the night of peace and holiness
The tranquil night of divine grace
A multitude of angels harmonizing with the multitude,
Singing praises to the Savior who saves humanity.
On this night, like the historic night of old,
In the cold wilderness of Bethlehem,
A helpless infant brings liberation to mankind,
His truth enlightening all people.
Yes! After four weeks of hopeful anticipation, tonight we rejoice with hearts full of gratitude and thanksgiving, for the countless graces that God has bestowed upon us, for tonight the Word became flesh and dwells among us. Tonight, the Child Jesus appears as a beam of light: the light of love, illuminating and warming our hearts. The Child Jesus will bring us hope, living in joy, and the happiness of being children of God.
MC2: And in the joy, the jubilation of celebrating the Mystery of the Nativity, we extend our heartfelt wishes to the Pastor, the Reverend Sisters, the ministry teams, and the entire community of God's people for a joyful Christmas celebration - filled with blessings and a prosperous New Year.
MC1: To illuminate the significance and content of this special xxxx Christmas Eve Vigil program, we respectfully invite Father Joseph, our beloved pastor, to deliver the sermon and commence the program. Let's warmly welcome our dear pastor with a big round of applause.
(Father Joseph delivers the opening speech for the prayer night)
MC2: Dear congregation, on every Christmas occasion, we gather here eagerly to celebrate the Christmas Eve Vigil, reliving the event of the Incarnation of the Son of God. God becoming human has opened up a world of love, a world of compassion, where humanity learns to cherish, love, and accept one another as brothers and sisters in one family - the great family of God's children.
MC1: In a special way, the Vietnam Episcopal Conference has chosen this year to invite Catholic families to stand in solidarity with those facing difficulties. Now more than ever, families in hardship need peace. True peace resides only with God, Emmanuel, who is with us and grants us true peace.
MC2: In God's original intention, He desired to establish the first human family with Adam and Eve in His own image and provided them with all the conditions for complete happiness. Let's rewind time together to revisit the early chapters of the Book of Genesis through the Creation scene.
PART I: CREATION
MC1: From the distant past, when the universe was still formless, and the world was yet to be created, God embraced humanity in the depths of His love. He crafted a vast universe with countless stars and entrusted myriad creatures for humans to enjoy. God entrusted humans with the care and beautification of the universe according to His divine will. The word of God is the word of Power, the Word of Creation. With a single WORD, the universe and all things were Created.
Song and Dance: Oh, all creatures of creation.
(Animals + Flowers + Trees + Adam and Eve)
ACT II: GOD'S PROMISE TO SAVE HUMANITY.
MC1: However, shortly thereafter, our original ancestors committed sin, forfeiting divine grace and being expelled from the Garden of Eden. Humanity descended further into sinfulness. Cain killed Abel, marking the first bloodshed in salvation history. Sin proliferated across the earth. Yet, salvation history is a history of love. God continued to accompany humanity by choosing Abraham and from Abraham's lineage, God raised a great nation, the Israelites. God, with His mighty arm, led them out of Egypt, out of the hands of Pharaoh. Furthermore, God sent prophets to humanity to listen to His Word and heed His call. The prophets called people to return to God and navigate life together through historical vicissitudes. Thus, God demonstrated His mercy, always accompanying people, families in hardship, inviting them to turn their gaze heavenward.
* Performance - Dance: PROPHECY
(Prophets - Poor people carrying heavy burdens and suffering... )
ACT III. ANNUNCIATION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Mc2: The appointed time has come, the entire heavenly court awaits a moment unparalleled in human history. With profound solemnity, the Son of God incarnates to enter into human history. God becomes human to share in humanity's fate. No longer present to hear the cries of humanity, He bears the burden of humanity on His shoulders to elevate humanity when lifted up.
Mc1: This momentous occasion is marked by the whispered words 'Let it be' from the Blessed Virgin Mary. The heavenly hosts rejoice, humanity surges with indescribable joy, a day of boundless happiness for humanity. The Second Person of the Trinity has Incarnated within the Virgin's womb. Humble, Mary worships the Holy One whom she, like all people, eagerly awaits.
* This dance praises the Lord, my soul rejoices
Mother Mary and the little angels.
Mc2: Through Mary's consent, joy is brought to all humanity. And the Word became Incarnate within the Virgin Mary's womb. And after that consent, the universe changed, the world entered a new era, an era of peace and the light of salvation. Out of love for humanity, the Son of God obediently fulfilled the divine will to redeem humanity's status as children of God. But do humans understand? How did the Divine One Incarnate?
*Scene returning to Bethlehem: The fate of the migrant.
Mc1: Amidst the cold winter night, in Bethlehem, where all refused them, Joseph and Mary sought refuge in a humble stable amidst the deserted fields. And it was right here, the Son of God was born. Now, in unison with our angels, let us raise our voices in praise, GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST. Peace on earth to those of goodwill.
Mc2: Across the globe, the Church tonight relives the joy of salvation, resonating with holy delight, blending our hearts with the sound of harps and songs exalting the Incarnate Son of God.
All actors and the congregation present rejoicefully sing the hymn
CHRISTMAS CAROL
Mc1: The heavens and the earth unite. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, to embark on the journey of human life, carrying all the joys, sorrows, and concerns of a limited being like us, to empathize with us, and above all, to become a source of Peace for families facing difficulties.
Mc2: From the humble Bethlehem of yore, now has become immensely grand, for it is here that the Work of Redemption has commenced, a New Covenant has been signed between God's people and humanity, with the Incarnate Son of God being the sole Mediator, to communicate, to assume the frailty of human nature, and ultimately lead humanity back to God the loving Father in complete bliss.
Mc1: Joining in the joy of celebrating the Birth of the Lord tonight. Just like Mother Mary, Saint Joseph, each of us is also invited to collaborate in God's mission of proclaiming this Good News. Now, let us joyfully go forth to sow the seeds of God's Word everywhere, to sow the seeds of faith and happiness amidst this life.
Mc1+2: Now, inviting the congregation to join in offering the Christmas Mass in celebration of THE LORD'S NATIVITY
=> Here is a delightful Christmas scene script, incredibly detailed and specific, sure to add much more meaning to your Christmas Eve program and everyone involved.
2. Christmas Scene Script 2
* (Introduction)
Barren land, rejoice
Fields of flowers, bloom with joy
And let every family join in joyful singing, for in this holy night, the awaited One of all nations has come, 'He has come to our house' (John 1:11) to sanctify the lives of humanity's families. Let us prepare our souls to welcome 'the Son given to us' so that we may also 'become children in the Son'.
The Vietnam Episcopal Council in the Pastoral Letter xxxx has invited dedicating the year xxxx to 'Reforming Family Education.' What have we achieved? Let us contemplate the manger tonight to rearrange 'Our Home for Him.'
The family home, as the pastoral letter writes, is the 'place of life and love' (GHXH/GH 209) helping family members experience God's love and faithfulness, while also envisioning the interrelationships within society. 'But from the beginning, prompted by Satan, humans doubted the Love that created them, and rejected that Love when they 'ate the forbidden fruit.'
ACT ONE
From the dark curtain covering every home, along with sin, love turns into doubt, denial, and jealousy. The story of Cain killing his brother Abel is the first consequence of a Family rejecting God's Love, 'From the ground, your brother's blood cries out to Me.' It's also the endless tragedy of families today. :)
(Abel carries a lamb on his shoulders)
Abel: Brother Cain promised to come this evening to offer sacrifices to the Lord Jehovah, but why hasn't he returned yet? Well, I'll offer alone before it's too late.
(Placing the lamb on the altar reverently, Abel prays with tearful eyes. Jehovah accepts - the fire consumes the offering)
Cain: (Holding a basket of fruits, enters)
So, you've already finished your offering, huh? Why didn't you wait for me?
Abel: Please, brother, I've finished. Why are you so late?
Cain: Late, huh? Oh... (laughs) then I'm late. Harvesting and selecting takes time, you know!
(Cain speaks while placing the basket of fruits on the altar and then speaks loudly)
O Jehovah God, my land is only full of rocks, I sweat to plow deep furrows. What sin have I committed for You to reject me?
Abel: Brother Cain! Why do you speak arrogantly against Jehovah God, the Most High?
Cain: Shut up! Let me, do you see that? Jehovah rejected my offering. Ah! I understand now... Jehovah likes fat and meat but rejects fruits.
Abel: Brother Cain, please reconsider, don't speak rudely and offend Him. He doesn't reject your offering. But because of you... because you lack sincerity.
Cain: (Suddenly grabs Abel's collar) Shut up, stubborn fool. I will kill you.
Abel: Brother Cain, you frighten me too much. I'm your brother.
Cain: No, we're not brothers. I see only hatred around here. Why does Jehovah accept your offering but not mine? I will kill you... (Abel falls).
God: Cain! Cain! Where is your brother?
Cain: I... I don't know. I'm not his keeper.
God: What have you done? Your brother's blood cries out to Me.
Cain: (Suddenly recoils in fear) I... I don't know.
God: With your own hands, you've shed Abel's blood. From now on, the land won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.
(Cain carries his brother's body away singing a repentance song... Cain acts out the lyrics)
*(Introduction)
To restore the warmth of the family, 'He who gave birth to His Son through a woman.' Unlike Eve, the new woman is enveloped and consecrated by the Holy Spirit (meaning God's Love). The new family returns to the Love that gave birth to it and progresses in obedience to that Love.
Annunciation Scene
At Mary's house (Mary sitting on a chair when the Angel appears with arms raised)
Dance to the song of the annunciation included in the disc
Gabriel: Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women. (following the script)
Mary: (fearful, confused, whispers) Oh! What does this greeting mean?
Gabriel: Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
Mary: How can this be since I am not acquainted with a man?
Gabriel: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
Mary: (gentle voice) Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word. (Mary and the Angel, along with some small angels, dance to the Magnificat. At the end of the dance, the Angel waves goodbye and disappears.)
SCENE: BETHLEHEM COUNTRYSIDE
Narrator: Tonight, no inn welcomes the young couple as they are too poor. They must find shelter in a humble cave. There, the child is born, warmed only by the love of his mother and father.
Joseph: Mary, it's late and there's no inn for us to rest. Let's go to the stable, where the animals are, to rest for the night.
Mary: Yes.
Narrator: God always comes to humanity when least expected... He has come, not in a royal palace, but in a humble, poor cave. He has come as a newborn baby cradled in his mother's arms. A child given to us, the fulfillment of the ancient promise of the Divine. The child of Love, in Love, and for Love. Yet, the inns of Bethlehem failed to recognize, blinded by profit, leaving only the poor, lonely children outside... (Angels and shepherds appear here)
Add a bit more to this scene with an angel delivering the news to the shepherds.
Today, after xxxx years, Catholic families still celebrate Christmas as the Feast of the Family, but there are still echoes of the tale of the little match girl on Christmas Eve:
Scene of the Little Match Girl
Match Girl: Matches here! Matches here! Hey ladies and gentlemen, come and buy. These are the most beautiful dolls, they close their eyes when they sleep! Know how to open their eyes when they wake up. This is the gift that every little girl loves. Dolls here, get them quick before they're gone. Buy now... buy now...
Candy Vendor: Almond cakes, delicious chocolates, fragrant strawberry candy, really tasty. Come on, come on...
A Child: Mommy! Mommy. Buy me this doll, please.
Mother: Hold on, let me buy a doll for you, dear.
Doll Seller: Oh! Oh... here you go, here you go. Here's the doll, which one do you want?
Mother: Just choose the most beautiful doll.
Child: The one that's really pretty.
Doll Seller: Here, here, this one's the prettiest.
Child: No, I don't want that one, I want the one with blonde hair!
Candy Vendor: Candy here! Chocolate candies, almond cakes, delicious... come on... come on.
Child: Dad, dad, buy me the cake with lots of cream.
Dad: Alright, alright, dad will buy it for you right away.
(Meanwhile, the little match girl and two supporting actors will act according to the script :)
Narrator: A ragged little girl... Her worn-out apron filled with matchsticks, in her hand she also holds a bag; her feet in oversized cloth shoes slip out as she crosses the street. The first one gets crushed by a car, the second one, a kid picks up, he laughs out loud, then throws it up into the air.
Hey! Give me this shoe, I'll use it as a cradle for my doll, it'll keep her warm when she sleeps. Ha....ha....
Narrator: So the girl had to walk barefoot, her feet turning red and then purple from the cold. All day long she hadn't sold a single matchstick. Her stomach growls, she still wanders the streets and advertises. (Here comes a customer)
Matchstick Seller: Sir, could you please buy some matches from me?
Customer: Move aside, don't bother people.
Matchstick Seller: Sir, please! Could you buy some matches for me?
Customer: Stop it, I'm not buying anything.
Narrator: The girl suddenly sees an elegant lady walking with a well-dressed and warm-looking boy. The boy wears a top hat, knee-high boots, and holds many newly bought toys. She approaches them.
Matchstick Seller: Madam! Madam, could you please buy some matchsticks for me to light the Christmas candles?
Boy: Oh! Stay away, what matches? Go play somewhere else. Dirty stuff, filthy...
Mother: Let's go home, dear. It's almost time to celebrate Christmas.
Boy: Look at her, wearing dirty clothes and touching me, mom.
Narrator: Despite her efforts, no one buys from her, no one pays attention to the poor girl; everyone rushes home to celebrate Christmas. The pitiful child continues to wander the cold streets. As the night falls, the cold intensifies, snow fills the air while she wears only a thin coat. She tries to huddle herself up, but with every moment, she feels colder. And she sits huddled against a wall to shield herself from the cold.
Song: Life is full of suffering. Oh Lord! I call upon You. My soul is like a little bird separated from the flock, forever lost in the wilderness. Life is full of suffering, Oh Lord, I call upon You. My soul is like a little bird, living alone, living in exile in the sea of sorrow. (Where is this song from and who is the author?)
(the doll and candy sellers walk out...wandering to find and finally meet the matchstick girl, all three huddle together and fall asleep. Transition to Christmas song......Angels sing and dance...Children awaken)
Matchstick Seller: It's so cold! Oh! Where is this light coming from, it's so magical, feels like sitting in front of a cozy fireplace! Oh, I love it! Oh, who are you? You're so beautiful, could it be you've given me everything I've been dreaming of.
Angel: I am the Angel of the Lord, come and awaken your friends (Matchstick Seller wakes up her friends).
Matchstick Seller: Wake up, my friends! An angel has appeared and brought us joy!
Angel: Come to Bethlehem, to the stable where there lies a newborn baby, worship for it is the Son of God.
Matchstick Seller: Come on, friends, let's go to the Bethlehem stable, see what miraculous event the angel has announced.
(And the 3 of them join with the angels Dancing to the Angelic Song)
Narrator: Heading towards the Bethlehem stable, let each of our families be a stable of love for the Son of God. May the peace of Baby Jesus be with us all, and I wish you all a Merry and Peaceful Christmas season. Amen.
