One of the exciting new password protection capabilities allows you to identify and replace weak passwords with stronger ones. To get started, after upgrading to Chrome 88, you can check the strength of your passwords by clicking on the key icon below your profile picture in the top-right corner of the window web browser. Alternatively, you can enter chrome://settings/passwords in the address bar to go directly to a similar area in Chrome's settings.
Speaking of editing weak passwords, Google mentions that Chrome 88 will also make updating multiple usernames and passwords in one place much easier. In Chrome settings on both desktop and iOS, users will be able to manage all their saved passwords. A similar feature will soon be available on Chrome for Android.
The new password protection features will come along with a slew of bug fixes and other improvements, including better dark theme support on Windows 10, reduced permissions, and new Chrome flags for tab search, already available on Chromebook. Chrome will also no longer support FTP URLs.
These latest updates follow changes aimed at making extensions more secure, introduced late last year. The search giant notes that starting from 2021, they will alter how extensions access data and how permissions work when extensions are installed. The company will also provide users with more transparent information about the use of data by those extensions.
Google has taken tougher actions for privacy rights in Chrome. Last year, the company introduced the Chrome Safety Check feature, biometric authentication for password filling on iOS, and touch-to-fill feature on Android.
Google says the new features in Chrome 88 will roll out in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for the latest browser update.
