As promised by Google, the company has updated and integrated ad-blocking functionality into the Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary versions for Android, providing users with a faster web browsing experience without third-party add-ons. Google's new ad-blocking feature is expected to be integrated across all Chrome Dev and Chrome Canary browser versions, including both desktop and mobile platforms.
The Chrome update for Android includes ad-blocking functionality.
At present, the ad-blocking feature remains quite basic with no configuration options available. Users can only activate or deactivate the feature through settings.
If you're using an Android device, you can check whether the ad-blocking feature on Chrome has been integrated on your device by accessing Menu =>Settings =>Site settings. By default, the Ads option is disabled, press the toggle button to switch it on.
Block Intrusive Ads
Due to the lack of provided filters and configuration options, the ad-blocking feature on Chrome for Android will operate based on Google's own settings. The company aims to only block ads on websites that tend to display intrusive ads.
Once you install this version of Chrome, pop-up windows, autoplay videos, and ad banners no longer appear when you access and scroll through web pages.
“Chrome always aims to provide users with the best web browsing experience. For example, blocking pop-up windows displayed on a new tab is based on the fact that these windows make users uncomfortable. In discussions with the Coalition and other industry groups, we plan to prevent Chrome from displaying ads (including those owned or served by Google) on websites deemed inappropriate by criteria evaluated and endorsed by members of the Coalition for Better Ads, and this feature will be officially launched in early 2018.” Google announced in early June.
As mentioned earlier, the Chrome update for Android integrates a new ad-blocking feature available only in browser trial versions, but if you wish, you can download Google Chrome Canary and experience the ad-blocking feature without waiting for the official release date.
