(Homeland) - Google has recently issued an urgent update, Chrome 116, to rectify a critical security vulnerability.

Google has urgently released Chrome 116 to address a significant security vulnerability reported by Apple Security Engineering and Architecture (SEAR) and Citizen Lab on September 6, 2023. It involves a buffer overflow in WebP.
WebP, a Google-developed image format for optimizing web browsing, faces a high compression capability. WebP images are, on average, 25-34% smaller than JPEG and 26% smaller than PNG.
Google warns that the vulnerability has been exploited in the wild but does not provide detailed information. Hence, Google encourages users to update to the latest version of the Chrome browser to address the issue and protect the browser from exploitation, reducing potential hidden attacks.
Currently, the security update for Android and iOS users has not yet been released.

Currently, there's no specific information, so it's unclear if this issue affects other browsers based on the open-source Chromium, such as Microsoft Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, or Opera. Nevertheless, users should proactively update their browsers to the latest version.
Updating to Chrome 116 may take a bit of time for the download and installation process to complete. The specific versions of Google Chrome for each operating system are as follows:
For Linux or Mac: Chrome 116.0.5845.187
For Windows: Chrome 116.0.5845.188
For Mac: Chrome 116.0.5845.187
