1. Cleaning the Washing Machine Filter: Essential Knowledge
Nowadays, washing machines have become an indispensable part of every household. Many people invest a significant amount of money in washing machines, hoping to experience the best. However, after some time, the machine may become sluggish, unable to wash properly, or drain water. So, how can these issues be addressed? The following article will guide you with some highly effective tips for cleaning the filter, ensuring that the machine operates as good as new.
1. Why Should You Clean the Washing Machine Filter?
The washing machine filter consists of a water filter mesh and a fabric filter mesh (the sediment filter). The water filter mesh is located at the water supply valve, with the task of removing dirt from the incoming water source. Meanwhile, the fabric filter mesh is located just before the drainage pipe, serving to prevent dirt and fabric fibers from the washing process from entering the drainage pipe, causing blockages.
Depending on the water quality, the water filter mesh may require cleaning more or less frequently. It is best to clean it every 3 - 5 months of use or when you notice signs such as the machine taking a long time to pump water, slow water flow, or dripping.
After about 2 - 3 months of use, detergent residue, dirt, fabric fibers, etc., will accumulate inside the sediment filter, causing blockages in the drainage system, resulting in the washing machine not functioning properly, and even leading to damage if not cleaned in time.

The fabric filter is one of the parts that needs regular cleaning
2. Benefits of Cleaning the Washing Machine Filter
Regularly cleaning the filter will help the machine operate more efficiently, ensuring that clothes are washed cleaner and faster after each cleaning. A clean filter will also help eliminate mold, odor, and limit bacterial growth right inside the washing machine.
Furthermore, when you clean the filter, it is similar to performing maintenance on machinery. This will help protect the washing machine from degradation and serious damage, thereby increasing its durability and lifespan. Additionally, it will reduce costs by avoiding the need to frequently replace deteriorating components.
3. Guide to Cleaning the Washing Machine Filter
Note: Before cleaning any electronic device, make sure to turn off the power and unplug it from the outlet to ensure safety. Ensure that the place where you plug in the device is safe, dry, and unobstructed.
Prepare cleaning tools: Small-sized brushes or toothbrushes, dry towels, pointed-nose pliers, bleach solution (if available)

Brushes will be very useful in helping you clean the sediment filter of the washing machine
Cleaning the water supply filter mesh
Steps to follow:
Step 1: Securely shut off the valve of the water supply system (the water source to the washing machine)
Step 2: Place a dry towel over the water supply pipe at the water shut-off position. Turn counterclockwise to remove it. Do the same with the other end behind the washing machine.
Step 3: Use pointed-nose pliers to gently pull the filter mesh out of the water faucet.
Step 4: Proceed to clean the filter mesh. Use a toothbrush to scrub the surface of the filter mesh (for stubborn dirt, use bleach solution, avoid scrubbing too hard to avoid damaging the filter mesh). Use a clean towel to wipe both ends of the water supply pipe.
Step 5: Reinstall the filter mesh in its original position, reassemble the washing machine water supply hose (turn clockwise) as before.
