Statistics show that China accounted for the highest proportion of tourist arrivals in Vietnam in 2018, with an impressive figure of 4,966,468.
Close to 5 million Chinese visitors arrived in Vietnam in 2018
According to the report from the National Tourism Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism), by the end of 2018, the total number of international tourist arrivals in Vietnam reached 15.5 million, a 19.9% increase compared to 2017.
In which Asia continued to be the continent with the highest number of tourist arrivals to Vietnam, accounting for 77.9%, equivalent to 12,075,466 visitors. Specifically, China led as the country with the highest number of tourist arrivals to Vietnam , at 4,966,468, representing nearly one-third of the total international tourist arrivals in Vietnam. South Korea ranked second with 3,485,406 arrivals. Japan ranked third with 826,674 visitors to Vietnam.

The remaining 22.1% of international tourist arrivals in Vietnam are from European, American, and Australian markets. Some European countries have become significant sources of tourists for Vietnam, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia. The number of tourist arrivals from these countries to Vietnam continues to maintain a fairly high growth rate.
In 2018, the top 10 international tourist markets with the highest growth rates included South Korea, Hong Kong (China), Finland, China, Taiwan (China), Denmark, Thailand, Malaysia, Italy, Sweden, and the United States.
Conversely, Vietnam witnessed a decline in tourist arrivals from its neighboring countries, Cambodia and Laos, with declines of 8.8% and 15.2%, respectively.
With relentless efforts from the tourism sector, Vietnam has been recognized with prestigious awards, ranking third in the Top 10 countries with the highest growth rates of international tourist arrivals, as announced by the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO. Additionally, Vietnam is the sole representative from Asia in the Top 10 countries with the best travel experiences worldwide, as voted by TripAdvisor.
In 2019, Vietnam aims to welcome approximately 18 million international tourist arrivals, serving 85 million domestic tourists. Total revenue from tourism is expected to exceed 700 trillion dong.
