Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS service utilizes the company's expanded infrastructure to perform domain name lookups extremely quickly by connecting users to servers near their geographical location. Additionally, the company aims to provide users with better privacy and security by not logging any IP addresses to disk and deleting all transaction logs within 24 hours.
Although mobile devices can manually switch DNS servers to use the 1.1.1.1 service, these apps allow users to activate the service directly within the app, creating a VPN profile that automatically routes DNS traffic through the app to use the 1.1.1.1 DNS servers.
It's worth noting that the Android app requests microphone recording and access to photos and USB storage. According to Cloudflare, these permissions are mandatory and are only used when generating error reports.
The 1.1.1.1 app is now available for Android and iOS devices on the Play Store and App Store. To download and install the app, simply visit the respective store.
