In modern society, individuals always strive and make daily efforts to improve themselves, aiming to prepare for a bright future ahead. These efforts include nurturing moral virtues and, notably, the process of enhancing knowledge, making education a striving goal to elevate one's value. Simply put, beautifying oneself through intellectual attraction and knowledge acquisition. Intrinsic beauty originating from within the individual is always more valuable. Hence, the Russian proverb states: 'Peacock feathers enhance the beauty of the peacock, education enhances human beauty,' to address the importance of education in refining one's attractiveness, the allure of an individual within the community.
In the natural world, everything carries its own beauty, its own allure. Butterflies enchant with delicate, vibrant wings, intoxicating flowers with sweet, gentle fragrances, and the dawn's light captivates with its abundant vitality. Peacocks, too, are no exception. The male peacock has been bestowed with a truly beautiful plumage, leaving people in awe and admiration for its exquisite delicacy and wonder. It's considered the amorous weapon of each male peacock, each possessing a unique plumage. During mating season, they compete to flaunt their resplendent tails, akin to giant feathered fans, to attract the attention of potential mates. I don't know what peacocks think, but they must surely cherish their plumage greatly, as ultimately, it is their plumage that defines their unique value and allure, making their existence more meaningful. No one pays attention to a bedraggled peacock devoid of its colorful plumage, despite its purported status. Thus, for peacocks, their plumage is their lifelong essence.
Conversely, for humans, nature also grants us appearances from birth, yet this outward appearance is merely secondary. Life isn't always fortunate enough to grant everyone a conventionally beautiful appearance. Above all, what sets us apart from all other species is our language and an immensely vast system of knowledge awaiting human exploration.
Physical beauty may initially captivate anyone who beholds it, yet upon continuous scrutiny, it may eventually become tiresome if we lack deeper values, or with the ravages of time, even the most exquisite beauty will fade and wither. Therefore, we cannot rely too heavily on external beauty; it is a risky and even shallow endeavor. In contrast to the inherent beauty of nature, education and knowledge are everlasting entities, incapable of being lost but only enriched over time. And I must affirm that beauty stemming from a soul enriched with abundant knowledge is always an irresistibly attractive and irrefutable form of beauty. It seems as though people are compelled to delve deeper to understand it further, never finding it dull or tedious. A person, no matter how physically beautiful, with a hollow and insipid inner self, will find it difficult to engender interest and maintain relationships, often referred to as a 'moving vase,' signifying its mere aesthetic appeal without much substance. Conversely, a person with average outward appearance but possessing extensive knowledge, always broadening the scope of conversation, making exchanges fascinating, and enriching life with various colors, gradually appears more beautiful, overshadowing even superficial physical beauty.
I do not deny the significance of physical beauty, yet the value of a person largely lies in the amount of knowledge one can accumulate, what one can contribute to life and society. Physical beauty is not immutable and can be improved over time, but what remains most important is diligent accumulation of knowledge, nurturing the soul, and enhancing intellect. It is only then, in the eyes of others, that we truly become beautiful and radiant, earning admiration and respect. It's never too late to learn; an intelligent person learns throughout life, as Lê Nin once said: 'Learn, learn more, learn forever.' We learn anywhere, anytime, in any form, not solely through books. Sometimes, the lessons of life offer us far more interesting insights than any written text ever could.
The proverb 'Peacock feathers adorn the bird, education enhances the human' is indeed a profound statement, awakening those who favor superficial beauty, reminding them that true human beauty must emanate from the soul, from accumulated knowledge.
