Modern web browsers today utilize a plethora of keyboard shortcuts, enabling users to navigate swiftly and efficiently. While each web browser may have its own set of shortcuts, there are also common shortcuts shared among them.
These shortcuts will greatly assist you during web browsing across various web browsers.
Tab Operations
Ctrl +1 – 8: Navigate through tabs in sequential order, starting from the leftmost tab.
Ctrl + 9: Jump to the last tab.
Ctrl + Tab: Switch from the current tab to the next tab (tab immediately to the right).
Ctrl + Shift + Tab: Move back one tab from the current tab (tab immediately to the left).
Ctrl + W/Ctrl + F4: Close the currently viewed tab.
Ctrl + Shift + T: Restore the recently closed tab.
Ctrl + T: Open a new tab.
Ctrl + N: Open a new web browser window.
Alt + F4: Close the currently used web browser window.
Manipulating Tabs with Mouse
Ctrl + left-click/middle-click: Open link in a new tab while staying on the current tab.
Shift + left-click: Open the link in a new window, the browser switches to the new window.
Ctrl + Shift + left-click: Open the link in a new tab and the browser will switch to that tab.
Navigation
Alt + left arrow key/press Backspace: Go back to the previous webpage.
Alt + right arrow key/press Shift + Backspace: Reopen the previously visited page.
F5: Refresh the current page.
Ctrl + F5: Refresh the page and bypass cache, reloading the entire current webpage.
Escape (Esc): Stop page loading.
Alt + Home: Open the homepage.
Zoom In/Out on the current webpage
Ctrl and +/Ctrl + scroll up: Zoom in on the webpage.
Ctrl and -/Ctrl + scroll down: Zoom out on the webpage.
Ctrl + 0: Return to the default initial state of the webpage.
F11: Open the current webpage in full-screen mode.
Scrolling/Moving the Page
Space/Page Down: Scroll the webpage down by a segment.
Shift + Space/Page up: Scroll the webpage up by a segment.
Home: Move the webpage to the top.
End: Move the webpage to the bottom.
Clicking the middle mouse button: Scroll the webpage up and down by scrolling the mouse.
