Comparing the two Huawei smartphones reveals significant improvements in the P50 Pro, although it also experiences some downgrade in certain aspects compared to the P40 Pro.
Design of Huawei P50 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro
The P50 Pro phone flaunts a remarkably distinctive exterior with its rear camera module designed into two large circles, creating a very unique signature. Meanwhile, the P40 Pro features a more conventional design with a rectangular rear camera module.
Both devices have fairly similar dimensions, although the P50 is slightly sleeker and lighter than the P40 Pro. The finishing materials for both phones are glass fronts and aluminum frames, with the same IP68 water resistance standard.

Display of Huawei P50 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro
The Huawei P50 Pro boasts a slightly larger screen at 6.6 inches. It still features a curved Full HD+ OLED display but with a higher resolution of 2700 x 1228 pixels.

The P50 Pro also sees improvements with a smoother 120Hz refresh rate compared to the 90Hz of the P40 Pro. Additionally, this new smartphone proudly features a 1 billion color display and a 300Hz touch sampling rate, delivering a faster experience for users when gaming or using applications.
Processor of Huawei P50 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro
The P50 Pro comes with two different chip versions: one equipped with the Kirin 9000 chip and the other with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G chip. On the other hand, the predecessor P40 Pro is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 990 chip with 5G connectivity.
In AnTuTu 8 benchmark tests, we find that the Snapdragon 888 chip (717,837) outperforms the Kirin 990 5G chip (499,949). Additionally, the Kirin 9000 also surpasses the Kirin 990 5G with a score of 688,080. Both versions of the P50 Pro's processors do not support 5G, but they still score higher than the P40 Pro.

Regarding RAM and internal memory, the P40 Pro offers 8GB of RAM, while the latest P50 Pro boasts 12GB, along with up to 512GB of internal storage. These enhancements provide the P50 Pro with superior processing speed and larger memory capacity.

Camera of Huawei P50 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro
The P50 Pro still features 4 rear cameras but with some upgrades and differences. While it retains a 50MP main camera, the other lenses have been altered. The P40 Pro has a 40MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 3D depth-sensing camera. In contrast, the P50 Pro boasts a 40MP (monochrome), 13MP (ultra-wide), and 64MP (telephoto) lenses.

In addition, the Huawei P50 Pro currently leads the camera ranking on DxOMARK with an overall score of 144. On the other hand, the Huawei P40 Pro scored 132 points based on DxOMark's update in October 2020.
As for the selfie camera, the P40 Pro boasts a better setup with a dual front camera of 32MP + depth sensor, while the P50 Pro only has a single 13MP front camera.

Connectivity and Other Features
As mentioned, the Huawei P50 Pro series does not offer 5G connectivity. This seems to be a downgrade compared to the 5G support in the P40 Pro series.
Furthermore, other features remain unchanged; both still come with Dual-SIM, WiFi 6, NFC, SatNavs, in-screen fingerprint scanners, and IP68 certification. However, the P50 Pro features the superior Bluetooth 5.2.
Battery of Huawei P50 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro
In terms of battery, the P50 Pro boasts a larger capacity of 4,360mAh compared to its predecessor's 4,200mAh. It also offers faster wired and wireless charging capabilities at 66W and 50W, respectively.
